Responsibilities:
The Business Analyst is responsible for managing the financial and administrative functions of the assigned Practice Groups in order to assist the Practice Groups in achieving their straight goals and operational objectives. Leadership: Provides financial and administrative guidance and support to the Practice Leaders regarding the management of their Groups. Identifies and plans for the changing needs of the Groups and takes the lead in implementing new procedures to ensure that the Groups are managed smoothly and efficiently. Works with the Practice Leaders and other administrative managers to develop and implement business process improvement programs. Business Planning: Plays a proactive role in working with the Practice Leaders and Marketing staff to develop and implement their annual Business and Marketing Plans. Monitors and reports on the progress of each plan on a regular basis. Budgeting and Financial Management: Directs the preparation of the annual operating budgets of Practice Groups for approval by the Leaders, including staffing levels, billable hours, billing rates, billings, realization, turnover, revenue projections, direct expenses and net income. Coordinates these activities with the Director of Accounting, Chief Financial Officer and the Policy and Planning Committee. Reviews and analyzes the monthly financial reports prepared by the Accounting Department and recommends corrective action as required. Prepares or causes to be prepared any ad hoc financial analysis requested by the Practice Leaders. Client Accounting: Provides support to the Practice Leaders regarding new client and new matter intake, assessment of financial viability of new and returning clients, exception billing rates and analysis of alternative and non-standard billing arrangements. Supports the Group Leaders in performance of routing Group matters, such as AR maintenance and reminders, time entry reminders, attorney evaluation reminders, billing deadlines, etc. Provides other financial and administrative management for the Practice Groups as assigned.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Business or Accounting or equivalent work experience is required; advanced degree in Business or Finance is desirable. Minimum of 5 years of business management and/or financial management experience is required; prior law firm experience strongly desired but not required. Must be fluent with MS Office tools, including Excel, Word and Power Point. Access and SQL skills are preferred. CMS Open and Redwood Analytics experience is desired, but not required. Well developed analytical and problem solving skills, as well as strong documentation skills. Effective communication and presentation skills. Strong diplomacy skills and the ability to achieve results.
