Our client, a major financial company, is looking for a Senior UNIX Systems Administrator to be responsible for basic administration, system installation/configuration, security and installation of 3rd party software.The essential functions of the consultant position include, but are not limited to: Evaluate, install, debug, audit, maintain and document UNIX server farms and optimizes UNIX operating systems, and applications; Provide 1st, 2nd and some 3rd tier support for corporate systems and user applications including participating in Shift Desk support; Assist in managing the OS test, release, and push process; Automate configuration, monitoring, and asserting the state of production servers network equipment, and storage; Participate in 24x7 support delivery model; Support and implement system standards, processes and security to maintain corporate IT standards; Maintain, updates and audits system documentation; Add and maintain users on the network; assign application access, ensure security, and maintain their configuration are within standards; Train users in applications and UNIX fundamentals; Analyze project needs or requirements and recommends systems; Maintain and communicate project plans and status updates and other duties as assigned. Experience: The ideal candidate requires 4+ years UNIX systems administration experience in large financial services or trading industry environments of more than 500 servers, more than 1000 users, and more than 10 terabytes of disk storage. Strong knowledge and experience in UNIX scripting, automation, and architecture in large production server environment are required. Candidates must have experience with more than one UNIX based operating system, experience with non-UNIX operating systems (Windows, Macintosh OS or VMS) and experience with inter networking UNIX and other operation systems with Windows. Storage area network (SAN) configuration experience is an asset. This position requires strong analytical and problem solving skills, flexibility and open-mindedness. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to details, strong inter-personal and communication skills; ability to write purchase justifications, train users in complex topics, make presentations to an internal audience, and interact positively with upper management are required. Independent problem solving, self-direction, ability to plan, document, install and effectively implement complex server software across heterogeneous server and networking environments required.
