Robert Half Technology has an opportunity with our client in downtown Chicago for a SQL Database Admin. This candidate will be responsible for the logical design, modeling and construction of application databases for Internet and desktop applications. Working collaboratively with the application development teams, the database developer creates and documents technical specifications, programs queries, develops stored procedures and is responsible for performance tuning all aspects of the application database. The SQL DBA also interacts with the outsourced DBA infrastructure organization to recommend, monitor and collaborate on database installation, configuration, administration, backup/recovery, performance tuning and support issues as they relate to the development and support of application databases. Duties and responsibilities include: Work collaboratively within a project team to perform the logical database design, modeling, and construction of application databases. Ensure that user requirements map to logical database designs. Create the data dictionaries, logical database design, and other technical specification as dictated by the software development practices. Work with project managers and application architects to identify database implementation tasks for project planning purposes. Perform and/or participate in design and code reviews for data layer architecture and components. Plan and execute unit, integration and system performance tests for application databases. Review and provide feedback to the DBA infrastructure organization on database installation and configuration issues. Develop recommendations for physical database designs, upgrades and software changes based on application database requirements. Monitor disk storage statistics and makes recommendations based on application database needs. Monitor the database administration functions of the DBA infrastructure organization and communicates process and procedure changes impacting development teams. Determine and recommend appropriate levels of security access for applications and developers. Develop and maintain scripts and utility jobs for loading, processing and staging data. Implement other software required for application database development. Work collaboratively with DBA infrastructure organization in the development, testing and implementation of database backup and recovery processes as required by application databases. Initiate requests to the DBA infrastructure organization to perform database refreshes and recoveries. Monitor and test refreshes and recoveries of databases and data. Ensure compliance with the configuration management and administration policies of the DBA infrastructure organization. Serve as the representative in the DBA infrastructure organization&#146;s physical databas e change control process. Promote application database change management and configuration management policies and procedures within the organization. Develop and enhance best practices and coding standards for database development. Ensure that logical database standards and best practices are being followed. Provide application production database support. Serve as the primary resource to application development teams for troubleshooting and resolving logical application database issues. Perform root cause analysis for database issues and problems. Escalate physical database issues to the DBA infrastructure organization and drives issues through to resolution. Research and recommend preventative maintenance measures as necessary. Experience: BS in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent experience. 7+ years of Microsoft SQL Server 7/2000/2005 database development experience in supporting and implementing logical database designs and relational database concepts for data driven Internet and desktop customer facing applications is required. 3+ years DBA experience with Microsoft SQL Server 7/2000/2005 in an operations environment that focused on installation, configuration, security, backup/recovery and performance monitoring/tuning is required. Demonstrated expertise in developing, debugging, tuning and optimizing complex queries, stored procedures views, DTS packages, SQL jobs, and large datasets is required. Experience in defining and implementing standards, processes and procedures in database design is required. Experience in the use of Microsoft development tools and technologies including Visual Studio (2003 and/or .Net) and Visio is required. Experience with documentation and source code repository tools such as MS SharePoint and Visual Source Safe is required. Experience with formal software development processes and procedures is required. Some knowledge or experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is desired. Knowledge and experience with reporting tools such as Crystal Reports or SQL Reporting Services is desired. Prior experience working in a large, corporate IT organization is required. Experience with an outsourced physical DBA infrastructure is highly desired. Familiarity with Internet, server and desktop development technologies, including but not limited to: C, C++, Visual Basic, C#, WinForms, ODBC, ADO/ADO.NET, ASP.Net, XML and HTML is desired. Experience with research application domains such as accounting, tax, law and marketing is desirable. Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) certification for SQL Server 2000 is required.
