Job Summary Individual contributor provides highest level of expertise for development, specification and communication of the firm's technology architecture plan, the infrastructure components required to support it, and in the integration of corporate and business area architectures. Leads multiple projects for the area. Develops innovative and effective solutions for the most diverse and most complex business problems. Partner with business leaders and Principlearchitect to drive strategy and direction for a business segment (people / process / technology) Identify and qualify work and make available to the Client Executive/Domain for go/no-go decision Partner with portfolios to drive direction, standards and patterns for a particular domain. Accountable for a roadmap for a domain that is “comprehensive” and aligned to the business/portfolio/domain needs. Direction/decision maker for projects / programs in the portfolio (Business Domain) Directs the maintenance of domain Enterprise Technology Standards to specific technologies and supporting product versions and the target time frame for their adoption (Technical Domain) Accountable for representing the domain to the Architecture Review Board Understand industry and business trends impactingthe domain Understand dependencies between Business and Technology package and program initiatives Work across business and technical domains to ensure horizontal alignment Create architecture standards and other artifacts for the employment of technology within the scope of the domain sub domain or cross domains The Architecture Lead ensures the alignment of a solution with both the business and technology architectural patterns and standards of Enterprise Architecture. Accountable for architecture pillar of comprehensive solution. Focal point for all architecture on project, potentially leading other Domain (business or technical) architects. Works across business and technical domains, depending on need. Essential Duties & Responsibilities 1. Acts as principal designer for major corporate systems architecture including applications, data, and infrastructure architectures. 2. Leads and directs multiple projects managing resources and monitoring progress. 3. Provides integrated systems planning and recommends new or different technologies which will enhance current systems and support overall corporate and business goals. 4. Researches and evaluates new and/or alternative solutions and technologies to enhance operational effectiveness and reduce costs. 5. Recommends the appropriate computer platform, work stations and communication linkage required to support distributed and client server business processes and information flows. 6. Provides in-depth technical consultation to clients and IT management to ensure development of efficient application systems utilizing established standards, procedures and methodologies. 7. Manages vendor relationships to maintain state of the art knowledge in emerging technologies and to develop image as a leading corporation utilizing the latest thinking in technology. 8. Stays up to date on trends and developments within functional area of expertise and the insurance industry. May perform additional duties as assigned. Expert knowledge of design and implementation of enterprise workflow systems, distributed architecture, intranet/internet architecture, and communication architectures. 2. A senior level knowledge of the system development life cycle, and system and application program development technological alternatives and architecture methodologies for multi-platform environments. 3. Must be competent to work at the highest technical level of all phases of systems architecture design using state of the art for rules based architecture, object oriented component analysis and development (OOA,OOD,UML) and proficiency in Java, C++, Microsoft eCommerce applications, COM/DCOM, J2EE, CORBA. 4. Senior level understanding of client area's functions and systems. 5. Excellent communication and interpersonal and consultative skills to work effectively with vendors, clients, peers, and IT management and staff. 6. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. 7. Ability to lead teams on short-term projects. 8. Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and other business related software systems and hardware. Education & Experience 1. Advanced degree in Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent experience. 2. Minimum nine years of solid, diverse work experience in IT including experience with systems architecture methodologies. 3. Some previous project leadership experience is desirable. 4. Applicable certifications preferred.
