We are currently working with a client in the downtown Chicago area who is looking for a DBA contractor. This is a 6+ month position.
Position Purpose:
The Database Administrator (DBA) position will provide hands-on support in the design and development of all Relational Database Management Systems. This includes development, staging and production database servers and applications. We need someone with strong sql programming and development background.

Primary Accountabilities:

Database Server Maintenance
- Responsible for SQL Server 2000 installations including setup, configuration and service pack and hot fix installation
- Experience on SQL Server 2005 is a must
- Monitor resource usage
- Apply knowledge of the latest enterprise security concepts to production systems

Database Backup and Recovery
- Administer periodic backups of databases and transaction logs
- Develop and maintain database recovery plan
- Ensure accurate and complete database backups

Database Administration
- Manage database performance optimization and capacity planning and look for tuning opportunities
- Install and configure SQL Server software onto new servers & Upgrade existing SQL Server software to newer versions and/or Service Pack Levels.
- Maintain database security, integrity, and availability
- Set up and monitor alerts, operators, SQL Mail, linked server connections, DTS packages, and scheduled jobs that perform specific database tasks.
- Assist with the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from disparate sources and ensure its integrity
- Interface with the IS Infrastructure team for hardware upgrades and builds
Database Architecture
- Map user requirements to the logical database design
- Logical and Physical database design in support of applications
- Implement database design enhancements
- Design, modify & create data warehouses
- Design, modify & create Business Objects universes
Database Development
- Collaboration with developers on creating, debugging and deploying Stored Procedures, Custom DTS Jobs, tables, indexes, triggers etc.
- Create automated TSQL scripts to process summary database transactions that run off-hours.
- Run ad-hoc reports from the databases.
- Create, Monitor and manage the periodic EXCEL spreadsheets that deliver data to the various business owners.
- Create and maintain ERDs and system documentation and ensure all such documentation is maintained in Visual Source Safe.

Experience: Required Qualifications:

1. BS in computer science or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
2. 3-5+ years of Database Administration experience
3. 3-5 years DBA experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2000 in an operations environment.
4. Experience supporting and implementing complex logical database designs and relational database concepts
5. 3 years Transact SQL experience with an advanced ability to analyze and architect data and data models/schema
6. Five years of SQL Server administrative experience including managing multiple database servers
7. Data modeling experience (ERWIN or equivalent preferred)
8. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Effective analyst able to work closely with non-technical users.
9. Previous experience in a professional society, trade association or healthcare management preferred.
10. Ability to explain complex subjects to the audience with wide variety of technical skills
11. Be driven by the desire to achieve measurable, specific results within tight time frames
12. Commitment to excellence in customer service
13. Data warehousing experience
14. Business Objects/Cognos experience

1. Team of 5 (will be the only DBA on staff others are developers
2. Must be a self starter & pro-active
3. Must have good customer interaction skills
4. Must have a friendly & outgoing personality so that interaction with end-users is smooth, credible & professional
