SHORT SCOOP: 3 years UNIX support exp, preferably in a financial or trading environment; strong knowledge of Solaris, Linux, and Shell Scripting.SUMMARY: The junior Unix Administrator supports the trading, Back Office, and accounting group operations. He/she is responsible for diagnosing, documenting, and either fixing reported trader problems or reassigning them for the fix in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.RESPONSIBILITIES: Supports UNIX desktop environments at the CBOT, CME, and CBOE exchanges Builds, installs, and deploys all desktop-related equipment to and from user desks Participates in help desk phone weekly rotation Handles calls from basic hardware problems to complicated UNIX and trading price feed, interface or server issues Occasional weekend and evening hours. QUALIFICATIONS: 3 years production server (UNIX) exp, preferably in a trading or financial environment Ability to troubleshoot end-to-end desktop problems, including applications, to Back End server or service Understanding of Solaris Unix, Linux, and Microsoft Windows XP Understanding of hardware to OS interoperability Exp with ticket/work request system a must Understanding of TCP/IP and all UNIX networking protocols and services (NIS, DNS, NFS, SMTP, IMAP, JumpStart, KickStart, grub booting) Ability to configure major Unix components Excellent documentation skills and ability to write Shell Scripts in Bourne Shell, Python, or Perl Some exp with trading applications and their Back End infrastructure a plus Knowledge of trading and market terminology (options, futures, equities, etc) Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
