Communications Operator / Engineer for the operations group. Candidate is required to support the various infrastructures within the company, including network monitoring, network troubleshooting, review network statistics, generate Communication Installation Requests, generate and update network documentation and drawings. Candidate is also required to understand and implement network configurations, network policies and access lists. Propose procedure improvements and automation of site function, including shift checkout. Job Requirements: Experience in networking troubleshooting, project management, routing protocols and network management tools. Be able to plan, prioritize, multi-task and perform under pressure. Good written and verbal communications skills are essential. Be able to inform and relay accurate information to all levels of people in the corporation. Education: 4-year BS degree or equivalent in EE or CS Minimum experience: 5 years in direct related areas Some specific skills and functions: 1) Technology - Extensive understanding of communications systems a) Router, hub, switch, etc. (Preferable experience with Juniper and/or Nortel equipment) b) LAN & WAN network protocols: TCP/IP, OSPF, RIP, BGP4, PIM, IPX. c) Knowledge on Internet applications. (DNS,SMTP,HTTP,HTTPS and their workings) d) Network and system security knowledge (authentication, encryption, password management) e) DSU, modem, async terminal server, etc. f) Network management systems g) Test equipment: sniffer, CAT5 cable tester, OTDR, etc. h) Some firewall knowledge a plus (Checkpoint Firewall-1, NAI Gauntlet) i) Some system administration experience preferable (HP, SUN, NT) j) Programming experience preferable (Shell, Perl, C) 2) Network Management - all phases of network management including (not limited to): a) Concord NetHealth b) HP Openview c) Cisco Works d) Nortel Site Manager, Device Manager 3) General office practice a) PC applications (MSWord, Visio, MSExcel, MSProject, MSPower Point, Lotus Notes email) b) Memo, presentations, organizing meeting c) Project and annual budgeting, project proposal d) Consultant and staff management e) Good inter-personal skill, work well with all levels of people in all departments 4) Problem Solving a) Debugging complex problems of hardware and software. b) Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. c) Devises new approaches to complex problems; independently performs assignments with instruction as to the general results expected. d) Receives managerial guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval for projects. e) Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments. f) Requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of own field and related science or disciplines.
