Prestigious Company located in Chicagos Loop is currently seeking a WAN Engineer. Candidates will design, implement, and support this massive environment. The current environment consists of 700+ Cisco routers and 100+ Cisco switches. Candidates should have strong IP, MPLS, TCP/IP, SNA, x.25, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, and Frame Relay experience. Any Pix firewall experience is a plus. Candidates need excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Candidates will operate the companys internal data communications systems, including LANs and /or WANs. Plans, designs, implements, and manages networked systems, including configurations, supporting/troubleshooting network problems and coordinating with vendors for installation of such items as routers, bridges, concentrators, and switches. Acts as the focal point for reviewing the network, reviewing changes to the network, and making suggestions for improvements. Provides training and assists with proposal writing. Conducts project planning and implementation, cost analysis and vendor comparisons.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs performance engineering for complex-cross-functional network related projects.
Designs network solutions working with technical teams and the client.
Performs architectural design and integration.
Identifies and documents design/architecture best practices for global adoption.
Mentors other engineers.
Provides real-time escalation response for support issues.
Maintains in-house cable plant and wiring.
Participates in change management and incident management processes.
Uses and maintains network management systems to properly identify fault detection and issue correlation, and to determine performance metrics.
Maintains network stability and monitors availability.
Designs, installs, and maintains network core enterprise.
Stays abreast of new technologies as they apply to business needs.
Maintains integrity and relevance of data in systems and network management tools.
Documents hardware specifications and data communication circuit ordering information, asset management, and the acquisition and administration of maintenance contracts.
Evaluates new products.
Purchases network hardware and cabling.

Understanding of Datacomm protocols focusing on TCP/IP.
Understanding of network security practices and tools.
Experience in Network connectivity options.
Experience with network monitoring tools (both software and hardware).
Expertise in inter-networking troubleshooting in a large-scale network environment.
Knowledge of network management, network availability and capacity planning.
Knowledge and operating experiences in more than one of the following areas: VPNs, QoS, Remote/Local Access, IBM, Multi-Service (Voice and Video) Camput/MAN, WAN, Optical Networking, Transmission Systems or Wireless networks, SSI, Ecommerce, Hive, Core, and EVPN.
Knowledge of TIA/EIA cabling standards and ability to terminate and test Cat3, Cat5 and Cat5E data cables and fiber cross connects.
Proficiency in security policy and perimeter design.
CCNA certification preferred.
