The Data / Information Architect position will report to the Director of Technology responsible for Aon Risk Service's application and technology portfolio strategy development. The position will be responsible for data and information strategy and design development with a specific focus on data modeling, data warehousing and data integration. The position will primarily work with the business unit application development teams and the US corporate IT team with some involvement in cross business unit and global initiatives.

Responsibilities include:

- Lead in the development of a business unit data management and integration strategy including both structured and unstructured data content. Responsible for the development of a strategy and roadmap including the definition of an optimal end-state and the establishment of processes, practices and guidelines for the business unit IT department and it's outsourcing partners.
- Represent the business unit IT organization in corporate, cross business unit and/or global information architecture initiatives including customer data integration and master data management.
- Design analytical and operational data stores to perform well logically and physically for decision support
- Coordinate new data development and ensure that it is consistent and well integrated with existing warehouse structure
- Design key and indexing schemes
- Design partitioning and summarization strategies
- Properly design warehouse to enable easy, natural end-user access
- Balance design for optimized data access with the factors of batch data warehouse loading and maintenance resource utilization
- Establish auditing procedures to ensure continued data integrity
- Assist in post-implementation continuous improvement efforts to enhance performance and provide increased functionality
- Design and/or review proposed designs for additional departmental data marts as required
- Coordinate enhancements and maintenance of data warehouse, as well as structural changes when necessary
- Review business requests for data and data usage; research corporate data sources for new business data and appropriate sources of data feeds

Requirements:

- Seven plus years of experience in IT with relational database management systems (RDBMs), with a minimum of three years in data warehouse design of logical and physical models; application DBA experience with Oracle required.
- Two or more years of experience with data warehouse architecture required
- Demonstrated knowledge of data architecture best practices and patterns
- Experience in defining and implementing Master Data Management Strategies in large, complex environments
- Experience in Customer Data Integration techniques and processes to standardize and integrate client data from multiple siloed systems
- Global information management experience a plus
- Ability to effectively adapt to rapidly changing business needs
- Strong analytical conceptual skills; ability to create original concepts/theories for various projects
- Vendor management experience a plus
- Some experience in the following areas is essential:

- data integration techniques
- data cleansing software
- data replication products and technology
- data access software optimization
- Experience in entity relationship data modeling, with experience using data warehousing and data modeling tools such as:
- Oracle Designer & PL/SQL
- Oracle Data Warehouse & ETL
- Experience with or knowledge of ACORN's Corporate Performance Management system a plus.
- Experience with or knowledge of Cognos Reporting tools a plus.
