Solution Architect - Planning, Forecasting and Financial Systems

Job Summary


Individual contributor participates in the development, specification and communication of the firm's technology architecture plan, the infrastructure components required to support it, and in the integration of corporate and business area architectures. Provides guidance to others informally and formally leads teams on short-term basis. Develops innovative and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Participates in the development and maintenance of a business and system architecture and conducts business information flow studies.
2. Provides integrated systems planning and recommends new or different technologies which will enhance current systems and support overall corporate and business goals.
3. Conducts system architecture studies of new and existing IT systems to permit development of integrated systems which operate at low cost levels.
4. Recommends the appropriate computer platform, work stations and communication linkage required to support distributed and client server business processes and information flows.
5. Provides technical consultation to clients and IT management to ensure development of efficient application systems utilizing established standards, procedures and methodologies.
6. Acts as Project Leader and may instruct, assist, and provide guidance to other staff.
7. Stays up to date on trends and developments within functional area of expertise and the insurance industry.

Reporting Relationship

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

1. Full technical knowledge of design and implementation of enterprise workflow systems, distributed architecture, intranet/internet architecture, and communication architectures.
2. A solid knowledge of the system development life cycle, and system and application program development technological alternatives and architecture methodologies for multi-platorm environments.
3. Proven understanding of state of the art for rules based architecture, object oriented component analysis and development (OOA,OOD,UML) and proficiency in Java, C++, Microsoft eCommerce applications, COM/DCOM, J2EE, CORBA.
4. Proven knowledge of client area's functions and systems.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal and consultative skills to work effectively with clients, peers, and IT management and staff.
6 Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
7. Ability to lead teams on short-term projects.
8. Strong knowledge of interface design and user centered design methods.
9. Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office suite and other business related software systems and hardware.

Education & Experience

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
2. Minimum seven years of solid, diverse work experience in IT including experience with systems architecture methodologies.
3. Some previous project leadership experience is desirable.
4. Applicable certifications preferred.
