Prestigious Global Financials Institution, located in the Chicago Loop, is currently seeking a Manager of UNIX Systems. Candidate will need a strong background with SUN/Solaris, AIX, Linux, and Veritas technologies. Candidate manages and coordinates systems administration and operational activities, resource/task management, and various project activities at a global level, and is responsible for the direction and staffing of technical resources to support these activities. Stays abreast of industry best practices and trends. Candidate ensures the operational effectiveness and quality of UNIX services, and works with business operations managers on projects, operational decisions, and problem resolution. Develops working relationships with vendors and provides expertise in vendor contract management relating to maintenance and support. Responsibilities: Tracks, plans for, and pre-negotiates terms of enterprise UNIX hardware, software and supporting tools. Establishes working relationships with key vendors, communicate business requirements, and ensure that Company is receiving appropriate software and hardware support. Ensures all associates on UNIX Systems Admin. teams receive appropriate training and career coaching, and are encouraged to continually look for better ways to do their jobs and provide a high level of UNIX systems administration and support. Keeps abreast of new developments in the UNIX space, plan and advise for implementation accordingly. Establishes and maintains relationships with business group operations teams in order to understand current and future UNIX needs and plan resources to meet them. Managing the budget and quality improvement activities for the UNIX environment. Strategic planning and manages policy development to address operational and technical issues within UNIX environment. Serves as the primary point of contact from administration and operations perspective for new implementations. Manages total staff of 10-20. Coaches and mentors administration team members, operations (including jr./mid level management) staff of varying levels of experience. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field, or equivalent work experience 10+ years of IT and business/industry work experience with at least 5 years of experience in a leadership role. 5+ years of UNIX Systems Admin/Support work experience.
