THE BASICS:

A high-frequency trading firm in Chicago seeks to add a Senior Linux Administrator to an existing IT team to assist, monitor and progressively improve the existing infrastructure of a professional trading environment.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assist in designing, implementing and supporting a 24/7 Linux/Windows trading environment.

Linux deployment, administration, performance tuning, monitoring, and account management.

Linux and Windows Active Directory authentication integration.

Disaster Recovery management and testing.

. Assist in hardware/software purchases

. Train new employees/existing staff as directed

. Troubleshoot advanced TCP/IP and multicast issues

. Process, monitor and prioritize trouble tickets

. Automate any and all tasks that can be automated.

Datacenter management.

On-call rotation as needed.

Support other key initiatives as the business dictates

Experience: The ideal candidate is likely to have worked within the financial industry with a robust background in Linux design, implementation and support. The candidate will be added to an existing IT team that s/he will interact with on a daily basis. This position interacts with all IT functional areas (e.g. architecture, design, network engineering, Helpdesk/Desktop support, application development and support). The candidate will be working in a dynamic, heterogeneous environment and must have an extensive technical background including experience in troubleshooting, monitoring, maintenance and networking. The successful candidate must be highly self motivated, excel at multitasking, and comfortable working in a demanding, state of the art trading environment.

Thorough knowledge (5+ years) of Linux (CentOS, Debian and/or Redhat) architecture, deployment, administration, networking, performance monitoring/tuning, security hardening, troubleshooting and production operations.

Experience administrating Microsoft Windows servers (2003, 2008) a plus

In-depth knowledge of real-time operating system concepts and implementations

Strong knowledge of SMTP, DHCP, DNS, NIS, LDAP, CIFS, NFS, Postfix, BIND, SNMP, and Linux system security.

Experience with packet sniffing applications (Snort, Wireshark, NetMon, etc)

Linux and AD authentication integration (Winbind, Kerberos, LDAP, SFU)

Strong system configuration experience (Altiris, Puppet or CFEngine).

Strong knowledge of Kickstart procedures

Fluent in Perl and Shell Scripting, with experience implementing automation and monitoring using shell scripting and other related tools

System monitoring experience (SNMP, Nagios, Cacti, HP OpenView, Dell Open Manage, etc).

Strong Linux/Unix networking knowledge required (knowledge of Cisco and IOS a plus)

Backup experience. Veritas Netbackup preferred

VMWare Infrastructure experience.

Experience with Source code control systems, and bug tracking systems like JIRA

Ability to manage build environment, including familiarity with source control and standard build tools (make, ant)

REQUIREMENTS:

B.S. C.S. / MIS degree.

5+ years experience in network and system administration

Active or near completion of RHCT, RHCE, MCSE, CCNA, or similar IT certification a plus

Excellent written and verbal communication. Must be able to thoroughly document implementations, modifications and removals.

Highly organized, self-motivated, able to multi-task, able to work independently as well as a team player.

Must be willing to work some weekend shifts in support of maintenance and participate in on-call rotation duties. Must have operations experience in 24x7 environments.

Advanced TCP/IP and multicast knowledge

Knowledge of real time operating systems

Programming experience in VB, VBA, .Net, C# and/or Access give candidate an edge
