OVERVIEW/SUMMARY:

Currently, we have an excellent career opportunity available for a Database Administrator in a newly formed Data Management Group within Aon Warranty Group, a subsidiary of Aon Corporation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
*Provide 1st/2nd tier support for all production database instances
*Ensure availability of production databases thorough appropriate monitoring
*Monitor and maintain database security in cooperation with data security administrators
*Perform database repairs
*Manage database backup and recovery procedures using standard and reliable procedures
*Monitor database disk utilization and recommend future storage requirements and strategies
*Deploy database object changes
*Maintain key business data
*Employ tight change control procedures when making any modifications to database objects or data in production environments
*Support ETL jobs ensuring that they access databases in most efficient fashion
*Support reporting, query and analysis tools ensuring that they access databases in most efficient fashion
Database Development
*Design and develop logical data models based on business requirements
*Design, develop and implement physical data models
*Develop estimates on related project work.
*Conduct database code and data model reviews and provide direction to Application Developers
*Develop testing plans for data access, data movement and data distribution routines
*Monitor and report database development project status and anticipate potential issues
*Design data load process from Data Acquisition layers into the Data Stores
*Work with Application Architect and Application Developers to tune SQL and data access routines
*Database object creation, maintenance, and change control across all traditional software development lifecycle environments (development, test, staging)
*Employ Database backup and recovery during all project phases
*Maintain the health of configuration, development, staging environments and servers
*Support design and implementation of ETL processes between disparate systems
Other
*Develop, maintain and document technical and procedural standards and ensure that they are adhered to across the enterprise
*Stay current with new database technology developments and database development techniques
*Research and evaluate software and hardware to assist in database development on different platforms
*Investigate feasibility, costs, time and compatibility with hardware and other software systems
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
*5+ years experience in Database Administration
*3+ years experience in Database Development
*Database Administration on Windows and/or AIX
*Usage of Data Modeling tool (ERwin, ERStudio, etc.)
Not Required but Highly Beneficial
*Database Administration and/or development on other DBMS's such as SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase
*Support and/or usage of industry leading ETL tools and concepts (DataStage, Informatica, etc.)
*Support and/or usage of industry leading BI tools and concepts (Cognos, Business Objects, Microstrategy, DB2 OLAP, etc.)
*Familiarity with Minimum Work Experience Required:
*Minimum OS/400 operating system
*Experience developing dimensional data models
*Support of Data Warehouse environments
*High attention to detail and quality

EDUCATION REQUIRED:
*Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
