Position: UNIX System Administration/Engineer - with 10 plus years experience
Location: Chicago IL, (Wacker)
3-9 month contract with potential to hire right person

This position is responsible for the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house UNIX based information systems that support core organizational functions. It is a level three position (UNIX expertise) that includes planning, designing, installing, configuring, and optimizing all internal systems such as mail, DNS, FTP, web, database, and development platforms. He/she must possess very strong technical and problem solving skills in multiple flavors of UNIX such as Solaris, AIX, HP/UX and Linux.

The Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. This position is also heavily involved in projects involving architectural design and development of hardware and software systems. Typically requires 10+ years of UNIX System Administration/Engineering experience.

Other Responsibilities:

" Administration of Cisco based Network gear including Switches, Routers, Firewalls and VPN devices as needed
" Administration of Windows based systems as needed
" Mentoring and providing guidance to junior members of the team

Requirements include:

" Excellent knowledge and experience with multiple flavors of UNIX such as Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, HP/UX, and Linux
" Knowledge on UNIX Server hardware from Sun, IBM, HP and Dell
" Excellent Server Hardware and software Configuration and troubleshooting experience, including clustering, RAID, and Volume Managers etc.
" Strong understanding on Networking protocols such as TCP/IP, FTP, SMTP, SNMP, DNS etc.
" Excellent knowledge on at least one scripting language such as PERL, C, CGI, VBScript or shell scripting
" Strong knowledge on Backup and Disaster Recovery technologies and backup software such as Veritas NetBackup
" Excellent knowledge on email applications such as sendmail and Postfix
" Working technical knowledge of Cisco networking gear such as switches, routers, firewalls, VPN equipment and experience with Cisco IOS is a plus
" Working knowledge of Windows Server Systems is a plus
" Application support experience with Oracle and Rational ClearCase is a plus
" Strong knowledge on System Security and authentication methodologies such as Public/Private key infrastructure, SSL, PGP, TACACS, NIS, access control etc.
" Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
" Stay up to date on trends and developments within functional area of expertise
" Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer science or software engineering or equivalent practical work experience
" One or more certification in Design and Administration of UNIX or equivalent experience

" Work experience in a medium to large environments
" Good knowledge on IT Governance and compliancy requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley

" Experience working in a team-oriented, Project based and collaborative environment.
" Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required.

" Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
" Experience with a project management methodology, processes and tools is a plus
