Software Release Analyst in Chicago, IL
DUTIES: You will be responsible for: (1)Acting as a release analyst and "release evangelist" focused on a rich set of enterprise applications; (2) Centralizing software deployment related tasks for all applications and applying a universal approach incorporating industry best practices in order to successfully deploy application changes to all target environments; (3) Centralizing all build/release/configuration tasks that pertain to all enterprise application product lines with a focus on very dynamic product release cycles; (4) Preparing the release deployment plans that includes risk assessment, gaining consensus from IT groups, and creating business awareness by conducting walk throughs on pre/post release tasks; (5) Acting as the local "release evangelist" to elect the "right" technical approach for complex product installations; (6) Guiding all necessary groups with regard to policy and standards related to application deployment, general solutions, and future considerations; (7) Evaluating and recommending methods and tools for streamlining and improving the release process; (8) Developing, documenting and publishing release management standards, release management plans and procedures; (9) Creating and maintaining deployment scripts that will be used to move build into various environments; (10) Providing release management / configuration management-related input to development and QA teams from test cycles to production; (11) Developing deployment plans and executing deployments into various environments with minimal disruption to ongoing operations; (12) Developing processes to verify successful deployment of software; (13) Leading the post-implementation review evaluating project results, including stakeholder satisfaction; (14) Developing and enhancing web-based tools for monitoring application version levels within each environment; (15) Developing an understanding of system architecture in the context of deployment and environment configuration; (16) Developing and managing the release communications plan to maintain its effectiveness throughout the release process; (17) Reporting on the status and progress of release and configuration management activities to all impacted stakeholders; (18) Working with the infrastructure team for all production turnover preparation, planning and implementation; (19) Proactively identifying potential issues and risks and work with relevant parties to resolve them, or escalating them to the project / application management team; (20) Contributing to continuous improvement by leveraging quality improvement methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma, SEI-CMM, and ITIL)
Experience: REQUIRED: MUST have STRONG/CURRENT experience performing releases and MUST have strong experience in using and administering MS-Visual Source Safe.MUST have STRONG/CURRENT experience with automated software deployment that includes deploying both home grown and packaged applications from third-party vendors.MUST have STRONG/CURRENT knowledge of various Windows operating systems, Windows DNA components, SQL Server, .NET Framework and other web technologies in the context of deployment.MUST have strong understanding of structured software configuration methodologies.MUST be capable of acting as a "release evangelist" and be able to share prior experience researching, learning, and implementing "best practices" for releases.MUST have general understanding of system/application architectures, SQL databases and distributed object architecture.MUST have appreciation for configuration management, and an aptitude for troubleshooting, testing and resolution of technical issues.MUST have strong attention to detail, and effective verbal and written communication skills. MUST have motivation to take ownership of tasks and the determination to drive them to completion.MUST be organized, creative and innovative, and demonstrated ability to work as a team member and ability to juggle multiple concurrent assignments in fast-paced environment.MUST have collaborative attitude in sharing knowledge with others and learning from their experience.Pluses: Bachelors degree.No PHONE CALLS please!
