Duration: 6 months + Location: Chicago, IL/ Zip Code: 60601 Compensation: $70,000 - $80,000/ Annually Role: Sybase Database Administrator Role Description: The Sybase Database Administrator would need to have minimum 5 years of experience. This Sybase Database Administrator would be experienced to work in a large, complex, and fast paced environment and would also be involved in the creation and deployment of new servers or alterations of old servers. The Sybase DBA would work on a team consisting of (4) other DBAs responsible for the following. Responsibilities: - Recoverability: Creating and testing Backups. - Storage: Create and deploy storage solutions/layouts. - Integrity: Verifying or helping to verify Data Integrity. - Availability: Ensuring maximum uptime and reduction of system interruptions. - Replication or distribution of Data to disparate sources. - Experience in data load using External Tables and SQL * Loader. - Define monitoring requirements for the databases supporting the applications. - Play a role in optimizing database performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases; - Address a variety of database integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications. - Provide advice to application programmers in the effective use of database languages; - Advise on troubleshooting, exception processing needs, and other data management issues. - Experience programming in scripting languages such as K-Shell, C-Shell, and Perl. Required Skills: - Familiarity with Partitioning, and other DB tuning techniques; - Knowledge of relational databases and methods for efficiently retrieving data from them. - Strong UNIX/Linux background. - Banking and/or Financial Services experience is a plus (not mandatory). Education: Bachelor's degree.
