Job DescriptionThe Senior Enterprise System Administrator position will provide the company's internal and coordinated support for any activities pertaining to managing and maintaining the VMS/IDX system. In addition an ideal candidate will have experience in managing and maintaining multiple operating systems such as AIX, Linux, Cache, and Windows. This position reports to the manager of Systems Programming & Architecture.This position will be responsible for the following project tasks such as:- Configuring the VMS system, kernel O/S, and GE/IDX standard application software operating in a Cache environment.- Providing system management and monitoring of the new system.- Providing system management testing.- Supporting adequate application testing by our company's personnel.- Reviewing application test results with our company's personnel.- Resolving any outstanding migration/upgrade related issues.- Providing subsequent post-migration/upgrade support.- Formulating and implementing DR strategy for the supporting systemsIn addition this position will be responsible for the following:Daily Items- Monitor and maintain M journal files.- Monitor and maintain backup files.- Review error traps and report appropriate errors.- Run and review the free space report, and act on any suspects.- Review and analyze M level files.- Review system level errors and system level log files.- Review the night jobs table.- Monitor disk space usage at the VMS level.- Monitor VMS jobs for errors and resolve or report to appropriate our company's resource. Weekly Items- Perform the Integrity Check process and review the completion report for errors.- Chart information from Freespace report.Monthly- Perform clean up of M system log files.- Perform clean up of VMS files.- Maintain kernel operating system log files.- Review IDX spool files in the platform-dependent and independent spool facilities.Ongoing Items- Perform disk repair tasks.- Adjust M database file allocations so as to minimize fragmentation as needed.- Establish baseline capacity for the major system resources.- Keeps abreast of hardware 'End-of-Life' cycle and notify the client appropriately.- Keep abreast of new firmware releases and coordinate installation efforts with the client's Field Engineer.- Keep abreast of layered product updates and/or patches.- Notify client of new ZCALL/ZLIB distributions and coordinate their installation.- Monitor system performance so as to establish baseline and continue effort for suspects and changing trends.- Monitor M performance so as to establish baseline and continue effort for suspects and changing trends.- Provide recommendations for tuning efforts and perform accordingly.- Provide recommendations for Preventive Maintenance tasks.- Assist client in implementing Preventive Maintenance schedule.- Respond to customer's needs and provide comprehensive solutions for all types of issues.- Provide telephone advisory assistance and remote login support.- Provide support for Web Framework.- Provide assistance with printer set-up and maintenance.- Maintain OS level login accounts.- Monitor and adjust available disk space.- Maintain standard IDX backup configuration files, the IDX device table, and the IDX night job table, as needed.- Consult and work with hardware Field Engineer, as needed.- Consult and work with 3rd party vendors, as needed.Hardware- Schedule and complete preventive hardware maintenance procedures with the hardware vendor. Such as GS1280's and the ES45's.- Contact and work with hardware vendor if hardware problems occur or if installing hardware.- Add or change peripheral devices such as disk drives or printers.Other work- Security Audit- Retrospective Analysis- Maintenance and Policy enforcement for all (privileged) accounts- Install security updates/patches- Install OS software updates/patches from the kernel operating system vendors.- Perform M database moves.- Perform M-level file de-fragmentation (logical save and restore, or on-line compaction).- Disaster Recovery Planning and System and File Restoration Testing (onsite, off site) with IDX assistance, as required.- Install Third Party updates/patches with IDX assistance as required.Availability- Requires to be On call 24x7- Will carry a pager / PDA and should in a position to respond to any and all matters related to job functions promptly.WHEN RESPONDING TO THIS OPPORTUNITY: Resumes without the required technical skills and experience will not be considered.
