POSITION SUMMARY



The Database Administration ( DBA ) Manager is responsible for leading the firm's database projects, environments and systems. The DBA team supports both production environments and development efforts. The Manager leads technical projects, manages staff, and coordinates activities with other departments. Grant Thornton uses both MS SQL Server and Oracle in the IT organization. The Manager assigns the appropriate team member as required for working with other IT groups on new projects, and maintenance and support of database technologies. The Manager develops the DBA staff and ensures their skills remain at the highest level achievable. Other responsibilities include participating in IT planning sessions with other IT Divisions as new projects are requested by the business. The Manager determines the strategies IT takes regarding the management, maintenance and implementation of relational database technologies.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-Ensure production and test or development database platforms, including MS SQL Server and Oracle databases, HP Wintel, and SUN UNIX servers are managed reliably.

-Provide guidance, technical expertise, and escalation for a team consisting of four to five DBA's.

-Mentor staff, constantly improving performance, productivity, and quality.

-Serve as project leader for database initiatives. Develop project plans, assign and manage resources, identify and solve problems, meet deliverables.

-Participate in the configuration management approval process for all changes to the company's database and server platforms.

-Establish baseline performance and availability measurements. Monitor proactively and report regularly on performance and availability metrics.

-Collaborate with development teams, quality assurance, and release management.

-Manage instance strategy, including all related processes and resources.

-Develop and document technology standards. Meet all documentation and procedural requirements in accordance with Grant Thornton standards.

-Evaluate emerging technologies for application in the company's environment.

-Develop, implement, and maintain disaster recovery plans for critical production databases and applications.

-Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict confidentiality in matters that require discretion.

-Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.

-Participate in other strategic projects as required and perform other job-related duties as necessary.
Experience: QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

-Bachelor's degree in MIS, Business Management, Finance, Computer Science or related field.

-7+ years experience with demonstrated success and increased responsibility in the development, operations, and maintenance of enterprise information systems.

-2+ years experience in a customer facing role, acting as a technical account manager or similar role.

-Previous experience working in the professional services or accounting industry in a medium to large organization a plus.

-Ability to integrate procedural steps and processes with technical requirements and system functions to assure successful delivery of work.

-Experience with following a formal project management and change management methodology to the implementation of new and upgrading existing systems.

-Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.

-Strong training and presentation skills in individual and group settings.

-Strong attention to detail.

-Ability to work with minimal supervision.

-Team oriented, flexible and able to work in a constantly changing business environment.

-Reports directly to Director of IT Risk Management.

-Ability to work additional hours as necessary. Pager coverage expected. Some weekend or holiday work required.
