Oracle DBA / Architect in Chicago, IL
Dynamic Financial Institution, located in the Chicago Loop, is currently seeking an Oracle Database Administrator with strong design and modeling skills. Candidate is responsible for working as part of a team to design databases and data models in a distributed environment.
Duties:
* Producing and documenting logical and physical database design using Erwin as a data modeling tool, while working with users and developers to understand their data needs and relationships to existing corporate data * Performing physical database design at the object level, creating DDL scripts, as well as defining database snapshots, table partitions, and backup/recovery strategy for Oracle 8 databases * Performing Oracle database tuning and administration including security management, instance performance monitoring, tablespace utilization, schema object management, database capacity planning, 'bottlenecks' and 'offensive' SQL activity monitoring and resolution * Maintaining the Enterprise data model repository using Erwin ModelMart software * Assisting developers with application design and performance tuning * Coordinating testing with other development groups and operations, identifying appropriate level of testing and ensure that testing is complete before signing off * Providing support for development and production systems
Qualifications:
* Minimum 5 years experience in Relational database design and administration * Experience with Oracle 9, with special emphasis on data modeling, data analysis and deployment of databases * Strong Erwin skills, including ModelMart experience * Experience with logical and physical design and administration of multiple Oracle databases for both real-time and batch applications; design experience should include VLDB - Very Large Data Bases - (500+ tables, 1 TB or larger) and table partitioning experience.
* 3-5 years experience with applications analysis and design * Knowledge and practical experience of Oracle 9.1 RAC is a plus * Ability to provide design alternatives to proposed processes as needed * Experience with queries tuning and performance monitoring * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, & excellent analytical skills * Must be self motivated and have the ability to work as part of a group, or at times, independently
Preferred Skills and Experience:
* Knowledge and practical experience of Oracle 9.1 RAC * Knowledge and practical experience of Oracle 10g * Knowledge of trading or financial exchange systems * UNIX shell scripting a plus
