Design Engineering Consultant with GPS Experience in Chicago, IL
Our client is seeking a Design Engineering Consultant, with a minimum of 6 years of engineering experience in a lead engineering role. The main responsibility of the Engineer will be to serve as a GPS system technical specialist for reviewing efforts in product conceptualization, design and integration, using systems engineering methods. The Design Engineer will perform requirements analysis, review functional partition, infrastructure breakdown and specification creation, to develop GPS personal navigation. This requires a broad knowledge of several fields and an extensive knowledge of satellite navigation specialty. The Design Engineer will prepare theoretical or design tradeoff studies across all involved product areas to refine functional attributes and achieve the best case design while minimizing development risk. The Design Engineer will review the design ideas and methods of approach, proposed by the bidding suppliers. He/she will act as peer consultant of relevant technical data, specialized knowledge usage and will propose improvements or modifications, to the design ideas and concept. The Design Engineer will work with other suppliers’ engineering personnel and customer representatives, to assure proper consideration of customer requirements. Experience: The Design Engineer should have a proven ability to design RF circuits involved with low noise LNA amplifiers, PLL, VCO, TCXO, RF mixers, AGC, antenna matching, transmission lines, insertion loss, PCB board layers stack-up, micro-via, BGA and MCM packaging. The ideal candidate should have a specific knowledge of GPS personal navigation devices, communications receiver design, and blue tooth telecommunications. Electronic 3D compass experience is preferred. Hands on experience with Sirf III and Sirf Direct GPS Chipsets are considered as a plus. Knowledge of GPS system and Location Based Services and application is also considered as a plus. The ideal candidate should also be knowledgeable of RF, Analog ICs and communication systems as well as RF tests, measurement equipment, such as spectrum analyzer and vector network analyze measurement and analysis techniques. The Design Engineer for this position should also have good experience with GPS, Bluetooth and WFI Radio architecture and knowledge of communication receivers. Spread spectrum signals using CDMA techniques or GPS receivers is considered as a plus. The ideal candidate must have experience with spread spectrum digital signal processing (SSDSP) using FFT/IFFT methods for acquisition and tracking, PLL/FLL carrier and code tracking loops, data demodulation techniques for modernized GPS signaling L2C/MCODE. He/she should also have a good understanding of digital base band Algorithm simulation, development and implementation using Simulink, MATLAB, VHDL/Verilog coding with Xilinix FPGA. The ideal candidate should have BS in Electrical Engineering. MS in engineering or other scientific field is preferred.
