Our client is seeking a Senior Sybase DBA to assist them in their complex Sybase production environment! In this role, you will have the responsibility of administrating, implementing, performance tuning, and supporting a "mission critical", Enterprise Sybase OLTP applications. As the Sybase Systems administrator, you will be responsible for architecting, implementing and providing full life-cycle support of the enterprise server environment. This is a 'hands-on' position which requires both tactical and production support experience. Provide (Level 2/3) Sybase DBA support for enterprise applications in Chicago, IL. Provide production support for multi-site replication environment. The candidate should have working knowledge of Sybase Open Server. Able to Install, maintain, and test all Sybase systems and related software. Isolate and solve software problems. Evaluate error conditions; take corrective action in both, Windows NT and AIX environments. Create backup and recovery design for multi-site database environment. Generate, maintain and update installation documentation. Expert Knowledge of Sybase Performance Tuning. Over five years experience in supporting large-scale databases, preferably in financial, investment, and/or banking industries. Technical understanding of, internetworking and new computing architectures is highly desirable. Candidate must be team-oriented and possess strong problem solving and superior oral and written communications skills. RESPONSIBILITIES:* Manage and support Sybase based environments. * Provide technical leadership in resolving development and implementation issues. * Manage the daily activities of the Server systems administrator. * Identify and perform high-availability performance tuning techniques.* Document all aspects of the systems architecture. * Conduct and participate in peer reviews. * Develop standard server model design and document best practices to enable consistent architecture across the enterprise. * Work with IT management team to understand the IT strategic plan and architect solutions in alignment with the IT strategic plan. * Collaborate with Project Manager to plan appropriate activities for design and development phase of the project and develop plans. * Support the Application Team in resolving issues in production (post implementation)* Oversee the maintenance / monitoring of systems within environment to ensure optimal performance, to determine system upgrade/replacement schedules, and to meet established Service Level Agreement (SLA) commitments. * Provide leadership in the development and implementation of IT strategic plan, policies & procedures for the server environment. * Participate as a member of cross-functional technical projects that require Server technology as a primary component of the solution. * Provide timely status updates to Technical project manager and IT management. This position is in Chicago, IL. Consultant can live in the Chicago area, or will be traveling to the Chicago location Monday - Thursday. Experience: Position Requirements* 7+ years of experience working in Information Technology. * Expert Sybase database administration and development skills. * Excellent problem solving and communication skills, along with the ability to work both independently, and as part of a cross-functional team. - Strong business analysis skills and excellent communication skills;- Expertise in relational database review;- Proficient with MS Office suite;- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (both technical and non-technical). - Solid understanding of web technologies, relational databases, and multi-tier applications. - Highly organized with strong attention to detail. - Highly motivated individual with very good analytical skills dedicated to complete tasks on schedule; Education:-- BS or BA, in Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or Computer Science desirable or equivalent experience.
