Systems Administrator Network in Chicago, IL
DESCRIPTION A Systems Administrator is needed and will maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including networks. Duties may include setting up user accounts, maintaining library of system documentation and installing system-wide software and allocation of mass storage space. Activities may include administration of personal computers, client servers, electronic mail, on-line and Internet resources, local area networks and wide area networks, and standard application software products. The candidate will interact with users and analyzes vendor products. The candidate may recommend purchase of hardware and software, and coordinate installation with vendors and/or technicians. He/she will train internal users. The incumbent will also develop and monitor policies and standards of allocation and use of office automation equipment and resources. Responsibilities: The Administrator will provide technical assistance in the maintenance and support of network security devices such as firewalls. VPNs and Intrusion Detection systems. The candidate will perform daily network security assessments and review of security reports. He/she will perform network security testing and network security compliance auditing of the network security devices. The incumbent will be responding to IT network security incidents, providing initial assessment of impact severity and types of incidences being addressed, and provides coordination for critical or serious incidents. All activities require tracking resolution and preparing reports for management review. Competencies: Experience with a variety of operating systems protocols and tools, depending on the type of platform or application to be administered. Able to rapidly absorb and implement new technologies and procedures. Capable of performing tasks in dynamic/changing situations and under stress, optimizing availability of system services to users/LOB staff. Familiar with SDLC methodologies. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Understanding of Mainframe, Midrange, Database, Web, and Client Server technologies. Excellent analytical, problem solving, and time management skills. A demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a team as well as independently to accomplish assigned responsibilities. Knowledgeable of network based attacks and their mitigation. Experience with Incident response, networking/application protocols (e.e., TCP/I{, IPSEC, routing protocols, 802.1x, NTP, SNMP, HTTP(S), DNS, ARP, static and dynamic routing, NAT, 802.1Q, port-channels vlan-tagging, SSH, SQL, NSRP/HSRP/VRRP or the like). Experience working with centralized authentication/authorization services such as Radius Scripting skills a plus (eg, PERL, Shell scripting, Python) -- The ability to effectively communicate complex and detailed concepts to others. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline. At least three years of experience in systems support and working knowledge of specific technology to be administered. Familiarity with multi-platform environments. Understanding of security systems. Strong writing skills, including the ability to summarize technical information and security concepts in a clear, easy-to-understand way. Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to interact and communicate with all levels of personnel in a professional and tactful manner. Knowledge of Operating Systems: Linux, Sun Solaris, Windows 2000, Windows 2003.
