Enterprise Data Architect in Chicago, IL

POSITION SUMMARY

The Enterprise Data Architect facilitates the standardization, data architecture and best practices for the firm's application, data warehouse / data mart as well as physical and logical database designs. The Architect is a key element in accomplishing multiple Data Management initiatives for the firm is responsible for helping to execute the vision for the future Grant Thornton LLP Enterprise Data Management strategy. The Architect provides architecture feedback in conjunction with Enterprise Architecture and Application Development. This position is based in Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

-Standardize Application ( OLTP ), Data Warehouse and Data Mart ( Dimensional ) new logical and physical data models across the enterprise.

-Ensure new logical and physical data models are created to adequately scale with the growth of the organization.

-Develop and manage a centralized repository for all new logical and physical data models.

-Review and recommend improvements for all new and existing new logical and physical data models.

-Ensure reuse and cross compatibility for data models across the enterprise portfolio.

-Analyze business requirements and design new logical and physical data models to support new applications, and data marts.

-Assist the operational DBAs during production migration and support.

-Create and manage meta-data model framework.

-Recommend Data Architecture in support of operational data ( OLTP ), data warehousing, metadata management, and data quality.

-Support the department on current and ongoing initiatives.

-Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict confidentiality in matters that require discretion.

-Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.

-Participate in other strategic projects as required and perform other job-related duties as necessary.
Experience: QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

-Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or proven hands on work experience.

-8+ years of overall IT experience and in data modeling

-5-7 years of experience modeling for operational systems ( OLTP ) and data warehouses.

-Experience with CA Erwin a plus.

-Ability to translate user needs into logical and physical data models.

-Understanding of SOA and/or other services based application architectures.

-Understanding of source and target data structures, ETL processes and products.

-Familiarity with tools and software products for data model, schema development, master data management and meta-data management.

-Good time management skills, i.e. the ability to take on and prioritize several tasks.

-Working knowledge of Microsoft Products ( Office, SQL, Analysis Services )

-Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.

-Team oriented, flexible and able to work in a constantly changing business environment.

-Ability to work additional hours as necessary.

The incumbent of this position will:

. Perform client consultation: plan, design, implement, and support the voice infrastructure

Qualifications:

. Minimum of one year experience in programming or analytical work; consulting experience preferred.

. Solid understanding of NFS, CIFS, FibreChannel administration in a NetApp Environment
. Knowledge of Distributed File Systems (DFS) beneficial.
. Storage Management: Tivoli Storage Manager or Veritas NetBackup experience helpful. OS software: Proficiency in at least one Unix or Intel operating system and Windows 2003 required. AIX and Windows certifications a plus.
