Network Engineer in Chicago, IL
Robert Half Technology has a downtown Chicago client in need of a Network Engineer for a contract to permanent opportunity. The ideal candidate will have the ability to look at the big picture when developing proposed information technology solutions and suggest solutions based on the customer requirements and industry Best Practices. Candidate will be responsible for the installation, administration and maintenance of the servers and key services they deliver on a 24x7x365 basis. Implement routine server changes (OS patches, drivers’ updates, etc.) according to departmental procedures. Provide high level support for Microsoft Exchange environment. Support and maintain corporate security policies. Understand and document network operations and procedures in full details. Help with enterprise caliber hardware and software product evaluation, including installation, testing and technical support for integration projects. Assist in the design and implementation of new or modified networks and makes recommendations to improve service Must be able to take lead role in project management; will report to CTO. Complete assigned manufacturer-training courses. The courses may be instructor lead or self study. Pass tests required for certification within two weeks of completing training. Prepare appropriate documentation for integration projects. Integration documentation will need to include specific technical details on how projects were completed and how to maintain the new solution. Support documentation includes needs to include network diagrams, e-mail and network configuration, remote access instructions, and other very detailed information that is client specific. Experience: Experience with Windows 2000/2003 Server, Exchange 2000/2003, Active Directory, Enterprise virus protection solutions and Enterprise back up solutions. 3+ years of hands on technical experience with server class machines, Cisco equipment and enterprise operating systems. Must be proficient with Cisco PIX firewalls, Cisco IOS and VLANs. Demonstrated ability to test, configure and install Cisco routers, switches and PIX. Demonstrated ability to test, configure and install operating software in Cisco routers switches and PIX firewalls. Provide oversight for virus protection; SPAM filtering, and security patches. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field. Completion of a Technical Certification Track (MCSE, CCIP, CCNA, etc.). Ability to work independently under time constraints and strict deadlines. Demonstrate exceptional time management and organization skills. Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills and strong customer focus are mandatory. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook and Visio). On call 24 x 7 with the ability to be on-site and troubleshooting for emergency calls within 30 minutes. 2+ years hands-on experience with Windows 2000/2003 server and Active Directory Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Exchange 2003. Thorough file server & file server maintenance knowledge. Thorough system administration (policies & procedures) knowledge. Thorough knowledge of wireless technologies (Cisco preferably). Strong experience with SMTP, IMAP, MAPI, DNS, DHCP. Excellent problem solving and analytical skills. Strong understanding of RAID, SCSI, SAN, and NAS technologies and general PC hardware proficiency. Experience with System analysis / Monitoring tools. Functional knowledge of TCP/IP and related troubleshooting skills. General Networking/Checkpoint –PIX Firewall Experience. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Knowledge of or experience working in a web hosting environment. Functional knowledge of Microsoft SQL. Demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines and deliverables. Ability to work well in a team and on your own. Good communications skills – previous customer service experience preferred.
