Applications Database Administrator in CHICAGO, IL
This position is responsible for operational support of and project initiatives involving database environments. This position plays an integral role in the maintenance, support, and enhancements of business critical applications. Candidates should be team players with excellent communication skills and have the ability to manage a multitude of assignments independently.
This person will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of ETL processes between disparate systems. Design new databases to meet application requirements, perform database object review, creation, maintenance, and change control. He or she will monitor relational databases to optimize performance, resource use, backup/recovery, and physical implementation, monitor and maintain database security, and support highly-available database technologies (clustering). They will migrate databases between servers and various platforms, implement SQL Server Reporting services support and implementation, Fault analysis and resolution, and implementation and maintenance of disaster recovery solutions such as replication and Log Shipping. He/she will investigate and resolve reported application issues escalating issues as necessary to application owners, document data flows, application specifications from a DB perspective, and system procedures, and provide 24x7 On-Call support on a rotating basis. Flexible to work overtime as required.
Experience: The candidate must have a BA/BS in computer science/related field, strong expertise (5+ years) in SQL Server 2000 and 2005, and proven troubleshooting abilities. He/she must have specific SQL Server Administration experience including: Triggers, stored procedure code, development and standardization, data integration and migration, management studio, SQL XML,
Database Auditing and Controls, Strong understanding of security implementation, Strong knowledge of Windows 2000, 2003 and XP, Expert knowledge of SQL and Stored Procedure Language, Expert knowledge of relational database concepts, Ability to translate Logical Data Models into physical structures, SQL Server performance management and tuning, Strong planning and analysis skills, Strong documentation skills, Ability to mentor/guide junior database administrators, and Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Prior application development experience including architectural and design skills are strongly preferred as well as prior experience with Oracle.
