Senior Web Developer in Chicago, IL
POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Web Developer develops and supports custom and COTS web applications as well as mentoring, training, end user communication and SDLC documentation. The Senior Web Developer is responsible for assigned internet/intranet programming work, occasional project management responsibilities, assigned user and management communications, briefings and presentations, and supervision of Associate rank developers as identified by the Manager of Application Development. This position strongly leverages a highly motivated self-starter with experience communicating issues on both social and technical levels to clients, who are members of the Grant Thornton community. This position is based in Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Develop new web applications as identified by firm and IT management and customize packaged Internet and Intranet applications to meet firm business needs.
-Maintain and enhance existing web applications and systems (custom and COTS) as identified by firm and IT management.
-Perform complete unit testing of web applications (custom and COTS) developed or customized prior to release to test or production.
-Provide SDLC documentation for all projects as assigned by the firm and IT management.
-Develop new Microsoft technology centric web applications as identified by the firm and IT management (.Net, ASP.Net, C#, VB, SQL, XML/XSLT).
-Customize packaged internet and intranet applications to meet firm business needs.
-Maintain and enhance existing Internet and Intranet applications (custom and COTS) as identified by firm and IT management.
-Maintain production, test and development based Internet and Intranet programming environments in conjunction with Grant Thornton engineering and DBA teams.
-Provide training and support of all web applications as identified by firm and IT management.
-Provide technical leadership.
-Report issues, problems, and customer needs as they occur to IT management.
-Respond proactively to identified training, technical support, and customer service needs in line with IT management and business guidelines.
-Coordinate identified user technical needs with others in the ADR division and throughout the Information Technology department.
-Participate in special projects for Internal Client Services IT as assigned by IT management.
-Participate in and occasionally lead special projects for ADR IT as assigned by IT management.
-Provide mentoring and technical guidance to members of the Application Development team.
-Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict confidentiality in matters that require discretion.
-Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.
-Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Experience: QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
-Bachelors degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field.
-5-8 years of experience in medium- to large-sized corporate environment with increasing levels of responsibility and complexity of projects and applications.
-Previous experience in the professional services or accounting industry a plus.
-Thorough understanding of systems development methodology and change management best practices.
-Experience with .Net, ASP, ASP.Net, C#, VB.Net, VB, VBScript, SQL, XML/XSLT, HTML, DHTML, CSS, JavaScript and other internet technologies in the production and publishing of internet and/or intranet websites.
-Project management skills including planning, WBS, requirements gathering, and project team coordination.
-Experience with creating and interacting with SQL database systems.
-Previous experience with BizTalk, SalesLogix, Vignette, and other web-based information systems a plus.
-Ability to integrate procedural steps and processes with technical requirements and system functions to assure successful delivery of work.
-Previous project management, client service, or consultative experience in the web technology area a plus.
-Team oriented, flexible and able to work in an ambiguous and / or changing work environment.
-Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
-Strong training and presentation skills in individual and group settings.
-Strong attention to detail.
-Reports directly to Manager of Application Development.
