J2EE Application Architect in Chicago, IL

Currently, we have an excellent career opportunity available for a Application Architect in the Systems Development Department of the Aon Warranty Group, a subsidiary of Aon Corporation.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a member of the Enterprise Architecture group, will be responsible to create, own and execute the architecture roadmap in order to build a highly flexible, scalable and extendable architecture and reduce technology costs, operations costs and complexity for the company.
? Provide application architecture direction and guidance to projects and their respective project managers to ensure that the right decisions are made at the beginning of the project.
?Work with all Application Development Directors in order to ensure that all application development is done consistent with a common architectural design.
?Also work with business units, product management, development and operations peers to develop innovative technical solutions that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, reliability, realistic implementation schedules and adherence to AWG's architectural goals and principles.
?Provide the architectural direction for applications development as well as business-value cases amongst the Application Development staff but also work towards consensus through mentoring and edification.
?Identify tactical issues and emerging areas of concern.
?Travel 10-25% of the time likely.
?Drive execution on architecture strategies, and define and capture appropriate success metrics.
?Review external technologies and products for their applicability to specific project requirements. Must be able to compare various solutions and select the one most appropriate for the project and the company.
?Coordinate and manage resources to diagnose and resolve complex system, application software, security, and other related problems that impact system availability.
?Facilitates and provides consultative services to ensure the most efficient and effective technical solution.
?Responsible for working with corporate management on strategic planning, identifying new projects, and establishing priorities.
?Responsible for overall application systems design.
?Gather/interpret information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input/output requirements to design application systems to perform well logically and physically.
?Coordinate new application development and ensure it is consistent and well integrated with existing application systems.
?Coordinate enhancements and maintenance of application systems, as well as structural changes when necessary.
REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Must have held the role of a Technical Architect for enterprise-scale, J2EE-based solutions for large organizations. Similar experience in MS .Net framework not required but highly desired.
? Must have played a lead role in the design and development of at least 3 server-side J2EE projects or a combination of J2EE and .Net projects.
? Must have a proven track record with integrating solutions in disparate platforms and technologies including Java/J2EE, .NET, RPG and other legacy technologies.
? Must have a proven track record of delivering projects on-time and on-budget.
? Must have experience maintaining and monitoring designed systems in full production environments.
? 8+ years of over-all information technology and software development experience.
? 5+ years server-side Java/J2EE programming experience.
? Experience in the .Net framework architecture strongly desired.
? 5+ years web-based application development (HTML, Javascript, XML)
? 5+ years J2EE servlet/JSP development experience.
? 2+ years experience WebSphere Application Server v5+.
? 3+ years RAD, WSAD and/or Eclipse IDE.
? Basic networking knowledge (topologies, IP sprayers, routers, gateways, TCP/IP).
? Basic understanding of security technologies (Digital Certificates, LDAP, SSO, etc.).
? Moderate J2EE web infrastructure/architecture knowledge (reverse proxy, fail-over, session state persistence, load-balancing, etc.).
