Network Specialist in Chicago, IL

Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, maintain and support the LAN/WAN internetworking environment to ensure it provides the defined functionality, performance, scalability, and reliability requirements
- Perform routine patching and upgrades to the LAN/WAN internetworking environment
- Perform production support and optimization activities working closely with developers and the business users which includes proactive monitoring, problem triage and resolution, and root cause analysis
- Proactively research and locate the necessary tools and processes to identify troublesome trends as they develop
- Perform non-production support to project teams
- Develop and update handbook documentation to ensure that all procedures are documented and repeatable
- Develop and update detailed design and configuration documents
- Participate in the execution of performance, high-availability, and disaster recovery testing
- Continuously strive to improve the environment by identifying opportunities and recommend solutions for improving service efficiency and effectiveness. Participate in IT initiatives to address service issues; keep abreast of technical aspects of the web computing environment and have a working knowledge of department specific applications
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvement
- Develop strong cross-team relationships with business and technical teams
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience administering and supporting LAN/WAN internetworking environments based on Cisco technologies
- Thorough understanding of OSPF, IGRP, EIGRP, and BGP protocols and experience with Frame Relay & MPLS as well as dealing with multiple ISPs and carriers. Experience configuring and troubleshooting with Cisco family products (Cisco routers, Catalyst switches, VPN Concentrators, PIX and LocalDirector)
- BS in Computer Science or related field required
- Highly motivated self-starter with excellent organization skills and a passion for working with technology. Must be able to work unsupervised.
- Strong understanding of operational processes and strong analytical and problem ownership/resolution skills
- Sound writing skills
- Work flexible schedule to meet support and project demands
