JOB TITLE: Designer, Principal (Bridge Designer)
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
PARSONS is hiring a Principal Bridge Designer to support a variety of bridge and other transportation related structure projects using Microstation. Bridge projects are located throughout the Midwest. This designer will work out of our Chicago IL office. Work consists of complete layout of the existing or new structures, drafting structural details in accordance with drafting standards, and coordination with the bridge and structural engineers.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Completes difficult and complex design assignments generally utilizing either 2D CAD methods. Technical skills gained from education/training and experience over many years enable this level of Designer to work independently and complete the most demanding design assignments. May serve as Lead Designer on a project.
Experience: SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Completes complex and difficult designs and for bridge and transportation related structures.
Ensures compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety factors, and client requirements.
May serve as Lead Designer on a project, ensuring compliance with industry codes, as well as project and company standards.
Performs interdisciplinary reviews and provides coordination of data to ensure a compatible design.
May provide direction to a team of checking personnel, ensuring the mathematical accuracy of the drawings produced.
Understands and applies commonly used company design standards and methods. Assists in the establishment or revision of guidelines, as directed.
Prepares CAD labor estimates.
Collaborates with Engineers and other engineering disciplines to ensure quality of design.
Checks orthographic (2D) and isometric (3D) drawings prepared by others. Performs checking procedures as appropriate to the discipline and assigned by immediate supervisor.
Assists in training lower-level Designers in various CAD procedures.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
2-year technical degree or certificate of completion from an accredited designer/drafter course (or equivalent) is preferred, as well as 10+ years of relevant experience (including some job leadership experience).
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Requirements include strong PC and CAD skills, as well as efficiency in utilizing computer software to complete design assignments.
Good communication skills are required.
