Purpose
The Quality Assurance Analysts (QA) is responsible for the development of test strategy documentation, the creation and execution of detailed software test scripts, and for owning the Quality Control process throughout the development lifecycle. Responsibilities include implementation and completion of assigned quality tasks, and ensuring the highest quality client-facing deliverables throughout the application lifecycle. The QA position reports directly to a Software Engineering Manager (SEM).
Essential Job Functions
Technical Skills and Experience
1. 2+ years of software quality assurance experience specializing in web-based applications.
2. Familiarity with the nuances of unit, system, regression, and user acceptance testing.
3. Ability to digest functional and technical requirements, and use these to create thorough test scripts in accordance with departmental templates.
4. Detailed execution of test scripts with attention to detail
5. Clear documentation of detected defects in the defect tracking system
6. Keen attention to detail, and the ability to catch the most subtle defects.
7. Ability to use systematic methods to research defects
8. Familiarity with automated performance, quality, and security testing tools is a plus
9. Familiarity with coding techniques that assist in testing such as basic SQL or NUnit / JUnit a plus
Execution
Follows the Arc World Wide development standards and guidelines.
Attends status meetings which may include all members of the project team, including project managers, user-centered design specialists, designers, QA analysts, systems architects, and hosting operations team to ensure all functional requirements of the assigned development task have been considered and can be implemented according to plan.
Embeds themselves in the requirements definition process
Ensures that quality assurance possibilities and realities are clearly communicated to project team.
Develops reusable, flexible, accurate, well-documented strategies and scripts for a broad user base.
Works with developers as necessary to resolve issues.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Able to provide high levels of customer service to internal team members, particularly Project Managers, proactively communicating status and issues.
Able to consider several alternatives, which may not be clearly defined, where problems are similar but not identical to past experiences, where information is incomplete and answers are typically sought outside of the work area. Able to effectively present rationale for identified solution.
Able to anticipate, assess and respond to quality problems, working with the appropriate resources to resolve them.
Able to maintain attention to details while also understanding the big picture as it relates to assigned QA tasks.
Able to improve knowledge of current Web-based technology, products and tools through self-study.
Able to foster attitudes, conditions, and environments that yield improved quality and quantity of individual and team performance.
Education and Experience
BS/BA in Media, Computer Science, HCI or MIS, or equivalent work experience
Typically requires 2+ years experience in full lifecycle application development capacity.
