Desktop Project / Program Manager in Chicago, IL
Our client is a multinational provider of petrochemical services seeking an exceptional individual with strong project management and technical leadership skills to lead the development of desktop technology for a major relocation project. This individual will have accountability to management to deliver an operational desktop environment to 1000 users who will relocate to downtown Chicago. The Desktop Project Manager will manage an SME and a team of implementers/installers who are responsible for procuring, installing, testing and end user set-up of the desktops in various facilities. Key Accountabilities: Build a strong desktop implementation team and provide overall team leadership and guidance. Follow internal Project Management methodologies, typically (but not exclusively) in the range of $1m to $10m. Establish a project plan from the CVP Define stage (appraise-select-define-execute-operate) to deliver 1000 desktops into an operating and supportable environment for turnover to IT Support Operations. Maintain project documentation, including required CVP stage gate sign-offs, DSP (Decision Support Package), TIP (Technical Infrastructure Plan) and procurement requisitions. Inventory, test and deliver user facing applications, including market data and applications currently being moved from local data centers to the AMDC's (American Mega Data Centers). Establish budget, inventory, project requirements and test scripts for user applications. Maintain effective and productive working relationships with relevant stakeholders in the business and other parts of IST and IT&S including Global Operations & Infrastructure. Actively manage project budget. Work with the operations teams to ensure successful transition of projects into operational support. Establish third party relationships with external vendors. Work with the procurement team and processes to submit RFPs, RFQs and/or RFIs for desktop components, as needed. Review current desktop specifications with operational support teams and end user teams to insure fit-for-purpose performance of desktop components. Deliver printing/imaging services (print, scan, fax and copy) using MFPs (multi-functioning printers) into production. Adhere to people management and development processes, including: objective setting, appraisals, personal development plans and training for all employees. Collaborate with teams to establish MAC (Moves Adds Changes) processes for the project, including re-stack processes, training and sequenced move schedules. Work with relevant managers to design and deliver flawless and detailed operating handover documents for multiple IT Service Desks. Report progress via weekly status reports. Experience: 3-4 years experience supporting and/or delivering high availability desktops and systems Experience managing full life cycle IT infrastructure projects with budget control from $5 M+ (specifically financial services or trade floors) in an environment requiring high availability of critical systems Experience managing teams of 10+ direct reports Experience working in a pressurized, commercial environment - ideally financial institutions Experience managing large projects to move facilities and users Ability to evaluate technology options and present best fit for project Experience installing and supporting specialty applications that require near 100% availabilityInterpersonal skills: Confidence: an articulate, bright and outward-facing person with a good sense of humor Proactively recognizes, documents and manages project risks Understands how the roles of project teams and operating staff interact and builds those critical relationships Maintains poise under project scheduling pressures and weighs priorities that have competing importance and urgency Excellent team player, used to achieving success through others Driven to realize results - not letting anything (within reason) stand in the way of progress and achieving committed goals Sensitive to cultural differences and comfortable with diversity in the workplace and working in an open plan environment Excellent oral and written communicationBONUS SKILLS: Project management in an Energy Trading or Investment Banking Environment.
