Senior UNIX Engineer AIX HP-UX - CJ-UnixMaster in Chicago, IL
Prestigious Enterprise Company, located in the Chicago Loop, is currently seeking a Senior UNIX Engineer with strong AIX, HP-UX, and Virtualization experience. Candidate is responsible for the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the Unix based information systems that support core organizational functions. Duties include planning, designing, installing, configuring, and optimizing all internal systems such as mail, DNS, FTP, web, database, and development platforms. He/she must possess very strong technical and problem solving skills in multiple flavors of Unix such as AIX, HP/UX, Solaris and Linux. Candidate will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. This position is also heavily involved in projects involving architectural design and development of hardware and software systems. He/she must possess the ability to work under pressure with aggressive deadlines, prioritize projects, and maintain focus and a positive attitude. The individual must possess strong organizational skills, have a passion for process and methodology, have a proven record of achievement and should be innovative, creative, quick thinker, fast learner, and a team player with a strong customer service focus. Furthermore, he/she will be required to perform advanced, complex technical/engineering problem solving. Operates independently, under minimal supervision and reports to the Systems Engineering Manager. Typically requires 10 years of Unix System Administration/Engineering experience. Responsibilities: Design and deploy new Unix Systems, peripherals and applications or perform enhancements to existing Systems and applications Provide Level 3 support to resolve hardware and software problems Devise methodologies for monitoring and testing system performance and providing performance statistics and reports Design system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies Design a consistent Patch and Security Management methodology across all Unix systems. Review and implement new Unix system releases and vendor supplied patches Establish and implement policies, procedures, and technologies (including firewalls) to ensure Unix system security Conduct research on Unix-related hardware and software in support of procurement and system development efforts Automate regular system maintenance tasks with Shell Scripts Provide Advanced System Administration for multiple flavors of Unix such as Solaris, AIX, HP/UX and Linux Engage in IT Projects involving moderately complex architectural design and development of hardware and software systems Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems Work with decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of adopting them to resolve business requirements Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services Coordinate with network engineering, business application, and database administration function to ensure availability, reliability, and scalability of Unix systems to meet business demands Provide guidance to the Product Developers on industry based Unix standards Research the latest industry standards for Unix security To Apply to this job go to http://www.GadBall.com or click here
