SUMMARY:The Sr. Cognos Software Architect will work with the IT department to understand business requirements and correlate potential technology solutions that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions. This person will be involved in the full systems life cycle and responsible for all/part of designing, developing, testing, implementing and supporting applications software. Makes recommendations towards the development of new or existing software. Assists/participates in component and data architecture design, performance engineering, product evaluation and buy vs. build recommendations.RESPONSIBILITIES: Breaks down business requirements into activities and artifacts that when realized, produce software that meets the business requirements. Provides both order-of-magnitude and detailed estimates for software development activities and artifacts. Develops and refines estimating models based on previous projects and trends to improve accuracy of estimates. Documents, produces and manages formal artifacts. Identifies user issues. Provides clear direction, coaching, and support to staff. Develops code artifacts - modules, classes, methods, scripts, along with corresponding unit test artifacts. QUALIFICATIONS: Deep hands-on experience (Framework Manager, Report Studio, Query Studio, Cognos Connection, Event Studio, Metric Studio, Analysis Studio) with the Cognos 8.3 Business Intelligence suite as both a Report Developer and Framework Manager modeler. Deep performance engineering (SQL design, analysis & tuning) experience with Cognos 8 reports, Framework Manager models and DB2/UDB V9. Deep experience designing and leveraging star schemas, drill-thru reports, cubes, and metadata. Experience in leveraging Cognos Security and the Software Development Kit (SDK) to customize reports and Web based GUIs using JAVA. Experience with the Rational Unified Process and associated SDLC technologies (eg ClearCase, ClearQuest, ReqPro). Experience with the AIX Operating System and the IBM Balanced Warehouse architecture. Strong analytic, problem solving, communication and collaboration skills. An advanced degree in Computer Science, a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
