Cisco Networking Administrator in Chicago, IL
This position is responsible for Management of the Network Infrastructure and the implementation and monitoring of the Local area and Wide area network (LAN/WAN). Knowledge of Layer III data switches and the OSI model are mandatory. This includes Cisco Layer 1,2,3 switchgear. Experience in the design of enterprise level networks (500+ nodes) in both a load sharing and non-blocking configuration a must. Knowledge of basic transmission principles including the transmission hierarchy (DS1, 2, 3 OC3, 12, 48 etc) is also required. Network monitoring principles such as SNMP traps, sniffers, and monitoring software (e.g. HP Openview, and SiteScope) is highly desirable. Understanding of servers and workstations is also required with emphasis on VMWare, Linux and Solaris-related administration tasks. Install Layer 1,2,3 switchgear; rack, power and patch Program routing scheme i.e.: RIP II/OSPF, etc. Install and configure monitoring software Review software and hardware revisions Review current security patch status for all switches Monitoring and maintenance scheduling for UPS systems Keep manager of Network Infrastructure informed of network issues. Ensure change control procedures are followed. Recommend, design and implement infrastructure improvements. Configuration and maintenance of VPN. To develop/reengineer processes for support of LAN/WAN environments. To maintain server room and servicing closet discipline i.e.: all connections i.a.w. Manufacturer and standards. To constantly monitor manufacturer websites, bbss, etc for the latest threats, updates, upgrades, and solutions available. (This will be a never-ending task responsibility). Assurance of 24x7 availability of systems and services that rely upon these technologies. Management of projects related to infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, and technology refresh. Providing mentoring, and guidance to less experienced staff in resolving problems, design of technical solutions, teamwork and communication. Maintaining advantageous and professional working relationships with vendors. This position will participate actively in the formulation and implementation of the LAN/WAN strategy. This position will offer recommendations and will negotiate contracts for hardware/software acquisition and maintenance services. This position will be required to work closely with all IS staff and with hardware and software vendors sales and technical support personnel. resolution of customer-affecting problems THIS IS A CONTRACT POSITION Experience: Extensive technical experience in a similar or more complex environment is required. Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer science or related field. Five years of LAN/WAN experience in a Cisco environment at the Corporate or Enterprise Level Five years minimum experience in WAN environment including routers. Three years minimum experience in server environment including Microsoft and Linux, Unix or Solaris, utilizing switched fabric connected storage. Knowledge of MS Exchange Five years hands-on experience with firewalls such as Checkpoint, Cisco PIX or equivalent Experience as a contact point with an Internet Service Provider Formal network management tool experience (Intel LANDesk, HP OpenView, MS Systems Management Server) is desirable. Applicable certifications (CCNA) desired.
