This senior level position provides advanced technical support of the distributed computer environment specific to Unix, Linux, and Windows server and storage administration involving, however not limited to, monitoring, operations, installation, upgrades and maintenance of these devices and associated software. Responsibilities include utilizing technical knowledge to provide consultation and direction to the department and customers on infrastructure enhancements and problem resolution. Regularly provides guidance, training and work direction to less-experienced systems administrators. The level of work required is considered advanced and requires minimal supervision. This job does not have any direct reports.


Job Description:

  • Responsible for the reliability, performance, recoverability and security of Unix, Linux and Windows server and storage hardware, operating systems, and various middleware software products
  • Independently researches, designs, evaluates and recommends more complex hardware and software enhancements for the server and storage management environment to management
  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain hardware and software enhancements for the server and storage management environment
  • Interpret and implement system standards, procedures, processes and security specifications to maintain System IT standards.
  • Participate on and lead District and System projects and assignments with minimal supervision
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Experience: Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or other related field or equivalent work experience
  • 5 to 7 plus years of direct work related experience
  • Demonstrates independent thinking and decision-making abilities
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem solving/problem resolution skills
  • Working knowledge of two or more of the following: RedHat Linux, Sun Solaris, SAN technology (EMC desirable) and Microsoft Windows
  • Strong knowledge and experience in scripting, automation, and architecture of server environments
  • Experience with the following a must: Cold Fusion, and IBM Websphere
  • Experience with the following a plus: LDAP, Active Directory, Tivoli Storage Manager
