Work Practice Designer/User Researcher in Chicago, IL
Our client is looking for candidates who answered yes to the above. Their customer centered team-based approach is the framework for designing technology applications, websites, internal systems and more for their clients. Contextual Design is their front-end, customer-centered design methodology used and taught world-wide.
Individuals receive the training and mentoring to excel as a Work Practice Designer (User Researcher) participate in the full design process - from ethnographic field interviews to interaction design. Work practice designers will participate fully in all phases of the Contextual Design process, including field interviews with end users, data interpretation and modeling, visioning new concepts, storyboarding, paper prototyping and deliverable creation. They must also be systemic thinkers: able to see the design implications implied by the existing work practice and envision new solutions that will improve the user's experience while meeting the business needs of the clients.
Those who have a background in the social sciences, technical writing, human-computer interaction, information systems, user research or other related fields are ideal candidates for our Work Practice Designer. Or perhaps you are a product manager or software engineer who wants to work in a small company environment and focus on designing products that are driven by actually face-to face customer research.
This position is ideal for someone with a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of relevant post-graduation experience - or recent grads with a Masters or PhD with 1-2 years of experience - and who are looking to expand their horizons by performing in a fast-paced, consulting environment
Experience: We are looking for people with these characteristics:
· Training or experience in ethnographic research or related methods
· Eagerness to learn the Contextual Design process and follow it
· Excited to produce innovative and practical designs that impact the life and work of the end user/employees while meeting the business needs of our client
· Good communication skills, both written and stand-up presentations
· Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to get along easily with others working on small, collaborative teams over extended periods of time while maintaining a positive attitude
· Willingness to travel on a regular basis, occasionally on short notice
· Currently living in the greater Chicago area is a must.
· Special consideration will be given to candidates with any of the following: background in business process redesign or Six Sigma.
· Effective tracking of activities, well-organized, and talent to eventually lead projects is a plus
· Special consideration will be given to candidates with a second language (e.g., Japanese, Chinese, German, and others).
