General Summary: The Instructional Technology Consultant (1) will report to the Dean of the College of Communication through the Associate Dean of Online Education. This position is responsible for the development, implementation and management of Online Learning opportunities for the College of Communication. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Provide leadership to overall strategic, tactical and operational direction for online learning within the College of Communication, working in collaboration with the Assistant Vice President for Online Learning and the Associate Dean for Online Education. Foster internal and external relationships by serving as the problem solver for technical issues and working collaboratively with the instructional design personnel and Associate Dean for Online Education to enhance online and blended learning within the College of Communication. Serve as the College of Communication representative on the Online Learning Incubator and report findings to Associate Dean and College-based Instructional Design and Development (IDD) designer, the "College Online Education Facilitation Team." Collaborate with College of Communication staff, faculty, IDD instructional designers, and subject matter experts to ensure the production of online learning materials are functional, intuitive, informative, and consistent with sound instructional design and learning principles. Responsible for issues related to instructional technology in the College of Communication and function as project manager for technological applications and projects as prioritized by the Online Education Facilitation Team or as identified by the Associate Dean of Online Education. Identify core technologies that will enhance the online learning experience. This will involve significant contact with Information Systems and Instructional Design and Development. Work with faculty to integrate technology into instructional environments, specifically working in areas of instructional design, online and blended learning, content organization, video and textual production and editing. Plan, prepare, assist, and teach faculty development seminars in cooperation with existing university technology training structures and the needs of faculty within the College of Communication. Work with the Associate Dean to develop course schedule for online courses and serve on a faculty committee that approves faculty and courses for online teaching. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements: Substantial experience in designing online learning environments including two or more years experience in the design and layout of instructional material in an online environment. Experience teaching in an online environment. Preferred Requirements: A Doctorate or a Master's degree in Educational Technology and/or Instructional Design and/or substantive experience in distance/online learning, corporate training, management, and human resource development.
