We have an immediate need for a Developer Analyst

Our client is looking for a unique resource. This is a permanent position. Please read the full job description before submitting your resume. They really want a local resource that is both a Developer and DBA.

General Summary

Developer Analyst-Lead: This position will serve as a senior member of a team that supports the development (fundraising) and alumni relations system of record. The team also implements projects that deliver highly valued, strategic features, several of which require large scale modifications. This activity has been happening during an aggressive University of Chicago fundraising campaign. The Lead Developer Analyst will be responsible for ensuring that technical/coding modifications are delivered consistently and reliably by seeing that code development activity follows the organizations System Design Life Cycle methodology. Also will Reduce request backlogs by quickly turning around high-quality programming solutions. Utilize experience in developing and supporting complex, multi-tiered systems, with one tier being a web platform. Utilize experience stepping through the code of a vendor purchased application and its associated back-end processes in order to resolve production issues, as well as experience in integrating a web product with other applications.

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Information Technology or related field OR the equivalent of four years of professional programming experience required; minimum of five years of experience in coding complicated, large scale requests in a multi-tier environment, including the integration of a web product to other applications required; minimum of five years integrating complicated custom mini-applications and features to the web-based product and maintain existing custom features required; minimum of five years stepping through the code of a vendor purchase application and its associated back-end processes and integrated applications in order to resolve production issues required; minimum five years of performing dual roles of coding requests and working in production support required; minimum of three years of business analysis experience (e.g. producing normal deliverables, business specifications, screen mock ups, functional specifications, test cases, etc.) required; firm understanding of relational databases and data integrity required; demonstrated ability to create complex queries to pull exact data required; experience in coding as a .Net application developer, Oracle, UNIX or PL/SQL programmer required; experience with having regular direct contact with clients required; experience in coding in PERL, Javascript, and ETL preferred; experience in supporting reporting systems such as Business Objects or Crystal Reports preferred; experience as a web application developer who was responsible for creating a web application from beginning to end, including all tiers of the system preferred; extensive data mapping experience preferred; understanding of metadata concepts preferred; experience in performing or supporting fundraising, development, and/or alumni relations activities preferred; experience with higher education preferred; strong oral and written communication skills required.

Other

- Must have strong PLSQL and database tuning skills. This must be someone a DBA doesnt have to hand-hold. This person should be able to go toe-to-toe with the DBA.
- Must know how to deal with databases and not rely on tools to work with databases.
- Must be able to work with a web framework and answer questions about why they like one technology over another (C++ vs. VB, for example).
- Will be asked questions like, How would you handle a poor performing query? If the candidates answer is I would talk to the DBA dont submit.
- Must be a good troubleshooter and not rely on tools.
- This is more of a mentor than a lead.
- .Net shop, but Java background is ok as long as they want to work in a .Net shop.
- Must have created applications from A to Z and been a part of project delivery. (Client has noticed a huge difference in talent that has had to both create and support an application verses being responsible for one or the other.
- Developer must be able to explain their framework and why they designed it the way they designed it.
- Must be able to answer questions like, What do you do when you have more than one App Pool for IIS?
- Client is looking for a candidates thought process, whether or not they agree with their opinion.
