IT Project Manager in Chicago, IL
POSITON SUMMARY The Information Technology ( IT ) Project Manager plans, executes, controls and closes IT projects conducted during the course of the fiscal year. This role interacts with all divisions in the IT department as well as the business units. Secondary responsibilities include supporting and modeling the project management methodology, tools, processes and best practices for IT division directors, managers, and project managers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES -Complete large size projects in a matrix IT organization successfully. -Manage all knowledge areas through the project lifecycle. -Model project management excellence and identify and use best practices. -Assist in developing and maintaining the IT project management methodology and training materials. -Assist in conducting regular IT project management methodology training sessions. -Coach and assist in the use of the IT project methodology and tools to all current and potential IT project managers. -Assist in developing job aids in support of the ongoing adoption and use of IT project management within the department -Assist in the technical support of all IT project management methodology resources including web-based tools, Microsoft Project ( and Project Server 2003 when applicable ), and other resources. -Assist in identifying, resolving and implementing project management methodologies and tools. -Assist in developing project management metrics. -Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict confidentiality in matters that require discretion. -Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis. -Perform other job-related duties as necessary. Experience: QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS -Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related area. -10+ years IT experience. -15+ years of project management experience, including implementation of large enterprise projects. -PMP Certification preferred. -Involvement with a Project Management Office a plus. -Ability to define and ensure objective measures of project success. -Ability to assess critical path of projects and effectively communicate critical project risk factors. -Ability to understand financial aspects of project management. -Detailed understanding of project management best practices. -Understanding of broad project lifecycle including systems analysis, training, infrastructure and testing as well as code development. -Ability to work at a detailed level while maintaining and retaining the big picture of the overall system goals and objectives -Ability to quickly grasp key business and technical issues of IT projects. -Understanding and application of one or more project management methodologies. -Ability to work with and influence peers and project teams in IT and business. -Ability to communicate effectively with business and IT partners and project staff. -Superior presentation skills. -Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills. -Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently. -Expertise in MS Office ( Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint ), MS Project, and MS Visio. -Excellent planning and organization skills. -Reports directly to Director, Project Management Office -Ability to work additional hours as needed.
