The successful candidate will join the Administration and desktop support team, and will be supporting the trading, back-office and accounting groups. This is a very diverse and highly technical environment, and this role mirrors that, so we are looking for a candidate who enjoys performing a variety of functions, and that also has advanced-level experience with Unix. Excellent trouble-shooting and problem solving skills are an essential requirement for this role. You will also be responsible for supporting the desktop environments at the CBOT, CME and CBOE exchanges, where we have desktop equipment, wireless hand-held tablets and servers. The role requires the building, installation and physical deployment of all desktop related equipment to and from user desks. This will include monitor arms, monitors, phones and physical networking infrastructure etc. The role also requires participation in the help desk phone rotation. This involves being the primary contact for all incoming user calls for the weekly rotation period, and the carrying of the help desk phone during working hours. Calls vary from basic hardware problems, to complicated Unix and trading price feed, interface or server issues, so there are a wide range of different issues that arise. This role offers exposure to many different and varying situations and technologies, and provides a very interesting and exciting environment to work in. Experience: At least 3 years previous experience supporting a Production server or desktop environment, preferably within a trading, financial or other fast-paced high pressured industry is required. The ability to trouble-shoot end to end problems from the users desktop, including their applications, to the back-end server or service will be part of the role. An understanding of Unix is essential, and we'd prefer additional experience with Solaris Unix, Linux and Microsoft Windows XP. Primary operating systems will be Solaris on the server and desktop environment, utilizing Intel and Opteron machines. An understanding of Hardware to OS interoperability is required, such as setting up sound cards and multi-video adapters and drivers. A full understanding of the trader applications, and their workings with the back-end infrastructure will be expected and required over time. Ability to effectively use a ticket/work request system is a fundamental part of the job. An understanding of TCP/IP and all Unix networking protocols and services is expected, such as NIS, DNS, NFS, SMTP, IMAP, JumpStart, KickStart, and grub booting. Ability to configure major Unix components will be needed. Excellent documentation skills and ability to present technical training or informational sessions to the administration team and other application development staff may be required.
