Modis is currently seeking a Software Engineer for an exciting contract to hire opportunity with our client in the Chicago area. JOB DESCRIPTION The Software Engineer will be working in a team environment on a full development lifecycle project for Java/JMS applications that utilize Hadoop clustering. Primary responsibilities will include the design, development, unit testing the applications as well as the underlying support for the development environment: Hadoop clusters, Hbase administration, UNIX/LINUX Administration, process automation, etc. Candidates should have 1-3 years of recent Hadoop experience. In addition, he/she must be proficient in a wide-range of relational databases, operating systems and high-availability environments including Oracle, SQL, UNIX, Linux and Windows. Strong Shell programming experience is also required for creating automation programs. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Required Bachelors Degree in an IT Related Field - 7+ years experience in the IT Industry - 2-3 years experience with Cloudera/Apache Hadoop and HBase. - Expert UNIX, Linux and Windows O/S experience - Strong Shell Scripting (Unix Shell, Korn, Perl) - Familiarity with Oracle 10g and Relational Databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/HOW TO APPLY *This is a contract to hire role.
