Development Team Lead in Chicago, IL
POSITION SUMMARY
The Development Team Lead is a member of the Web Services team unit in the Application Development and Reporting division in the Internal Client Services Information Technology ( IT ) department. The Web Services team provides support of Web Content Management systems for Internet and Intranet sites to the firm. The Development Team Lead provides technical mentoring to development team members, provides technical direction and process oversight, and assists the Manager of the Web Services team in managing the activities and staff on the development team.
The Development Team Lead is responsible for assigned specifications work with business analysis and customers, programming work, project management responsibilities, assigned user and management communications, briefings, and presentations, and the supervision/coaching team programmers as identified by the team Manager. This position is based in Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
-Coordinate efforts effectively with the Manager of the Web Services team, customers, IT Relationship Managers, IT Project Managers and Developers.
-Supervise and mentor development team members as assigned on day to day tasks.
-Provide mentoring and professional guidance - both functional and technical - to members of the Web Services team.
-Work with business owners to develop functional specifications and translate those to technical specifications as assigned.
-Document technologies and tools, including all projects.
-Provide daily supervision of assigned projects and project programmers' work.
-Work collaboratively with other team members on architectural requirements within and across applications.
-Champion development team processes within the team, ensuring compliance by all team members.
-Design and recommend new processes to the Manager of Web Services.
-Create solutions in Grant Thornton's installed Vignette Content Management system using organized systems development methodology.
-Provide programming team technical and functional team leadership and technical direction.
-Interact with the QA group in review of all applications developed or customized prior to release to production.
-Report exceptions of issues, problems, and customer needs as they occur to IT management.
-Respond proactively to identified training, technical support, and customer service needs in line with IT management and business guidelines.
-Coordinate identified user technical needs with others in the Application Development and Reporting division and throughout the IT department.
-Review and oversee assigned programmers work product and deliverables.
-Communicate and coordinate user needs with IT management effectively.
-Be aware of fiscal impact of project work, technical operations and functions.
-Participate in and occasionally lead special projects as assigned by IT management.
-Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict confidentiality in matters that require discretion.
-Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.
-Perform other job-related duties as necessary as identified by supervisor.
Experience: QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
-Bachelors' degree in Computer Science, MIS, Communications, or related field.
-Project Management Professional certification or other certifications applicable to the position a plus.
-6+ years experience in medium to large size corporate environment with increasing levels of responsibility and complexity of projects and applications. -Previous experience in the Professional Services / Accounting industry a plus.
-Minimum 5 years experience with most or all of the following technologies: HTML, JavaScript, Microsoft Internet Information Server ( IIS ), Apache Tomcat, Microsoft SQL Server, Java Server Pages, Servlets, Active Server Pages, and other Internet technologies in the production and publishing of Internet and/or Intranet websites.
-Experience with the Vignette content management platform and / or competitive products either commercial or open source.
-Previous experience in the application of knowledge management best practices in the publishing of information systems content a plus.
-Significant experience with J2EE architectures and best practices therein.
-Experience with creating and interacting with SQL database systems.
-Strong training and presentation skills in individual and group settings.
-Ability to integrate procedural steps and processes with technical requirements and system functions to ensure successful delivery of work.
-Project management skills including planning, WBS, requirements gathering, and project team coordination.
-Report status as requested for projects with primary and oversight-level responsibilities.
-Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
-Proven ability to effectively multitask with strong attention to detail.
-Ability to work with minimal supervision.
-Team oriented, flexible and able to work in an ambiguous and / or changing work environment.
-100% in-office work arrangement required; pager required. In-frequent overtime required ( evenings / weekends ).
