The Web Engineer is responsible for user-interface development in web applications, and for owning their applications through QA, Production Deploy and Application Maintenance phases. Responsibilities include implementation and completion of assigned development tasks, and ensuring quality deliverables throughout the application lifecycle. The WE's other responsibilities include project estimation and providing detailed documentation. The WE position reports directly to a Senior Web Engineer (SWE) or a Software Engineering Manager (SEM).
Essential Job Functions
Technical Skills and Experience
1. 2-3 years of web development experience specializing in interface technologies including graphic optimization and production. Hand coding advanced HTML, CSS, DHTML, JavaScript, Ajax and XSL/XSLT.
2. Thorough familiarity with pure CSS based layout techniques.
3. Thorough familiarity with cross-browser/cross-platform issues, DOM and web standards
4. Familiarity with document type definitions, browser modes and code validation
5. Familiarity with hierarchical, search engine friendly markup.
6. Knowledge of the JavaScript Prototype Library a plus but not required.
7. Thorough familiarity with various techniques for efficient re-use of visual code.
8. Familiarity with front-end template frameworks STRUTS Tiles, .NET MasterPages, Dreamweaver Templates, etc..
9. Experience working in applications that follow the MVC Model 2 pattern.
10. Past involvement in software applications throughout the full development lifecycle.
11. Familiarity with the Extreme Programming (XP) methodology.
12. Proficiency with XML and knowledgeable of associated technologies such as schemas, XSLT, transformers and parsers.
13. Familiar with application development and deployment strategies (CVS, VSS & other source code control applications, Ant, CruiseControl, NUnit, JUnit etc.)
14. Knowledge of Rich Internet Application (RIA) technologies (Macromedia Flex, Laszlo) a plus but not required.
