Summary

Responsible for ensuring workstation data integrity by evaluating, implementing,
and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Provides secondtier
workstation support for issues escalated from first-tier support staff.
Develops and maintains a comprehensive operating system hardware and
software configuration database/library and supporting documentation.
Implements operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability and
performance of the system. Assists in terms of the environment architecture.
Develops a command of department technologies in preparation to conduct oneon-
one and small group training sessions for department staff. May serve as a
SME for the District in System projects requiring desktop engineering expertise.
Works on moderately complex applications. May provide work direction and
assignment as well as training to junior staff. The level of work required is
considered advanced and staff must be able to work under general to minimal
supervision. This job does not have any direct reports.

Job Duties

Simulates, recreates, and researches user problems to resolve operating difficulties associated with the department s network and computing environments

. Maintains production change control schedule and participates in change control processes

. Responsible for activities related to the desktop/laptop system administration including installation, maintenance, configuration, and integrity of computer software

. Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures

. Recommends systems modifications to reduce user problems and plans for system growth

. Identifies and automates basic and routine procedures where appropriate

. Works with users to solve problems with available technology including hardware, software and peripherals

. Prepares documentation on department technologies and policies

. Participates in product and technology evaluation

. Participates in testing and pilot activities that provide sound recommendations to meet business needs

. Installs and upgrades, supports and maintains global, group specific, and standalone LAN and WAN application packages within a Windows NT/2000/XP environment

. Performs other duties as assigned

Experience: Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience as noted below
. 5 to 7 plus years of direct work related experience

. Demonstrates independent thinking and decision-making abilities

. Working knowledge, direct experience, and/or greater depth of expertise with 1 or more of the following: Windows NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Active Directory, Citrix Metaframe, SNA, SQL, Oracle, http, ftp, xml, Lotus Notes, SMS, NAS/SAN solutions

. Familiar with Dos and batch files, VB script, Java script, or Perl script

. Some experience working with network architectures and protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, WINS, DHCP, remote access and VPN

. Understanding of application development processes

. Exposure to network analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance

. Possesses and applies broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of the field of specialization to the completion of assignments

. Technical certification in one or more of the following is beneficial: A+, MCP, MCSA, MCSE

. Coursework in computer science, technical certification and related technology
