A Downtown Chicago Corporation is seeking a Director of Global Systems who is capable of providing global-level leadership and oversight for more than 10 operations around the world spanning systems, network, data center facilities and corporate IT functions for both internal and external customers. Each local Infrastructure Operations Manager will report to you, and you in turn will report to the Head of Global Infrastructure Operations.

Your primary responsibilities are to oversee the maintenance and support of production servers and tools, localized and globally-connected networks, world-class data centers and corporate IT infrastructures across the globe in order to meet business objectives. You will lead a worldwide corps of talented Systems and Network Operations Managers to ensure successful management of day-to-day operations and effective collaboration and utilization of global resources.

This high level position is responsible for running the global infrastructure, global data centers, and systems administration and management. They will provide corporation-wide operational leadership for all corporate systems and network infrastructure operations. Develop and constantly improve a culture that promotes teamwork and individual accountability. They will also gather operational metrics from each office, ensure timely completion of all projects, and monitor and evaluate the management of each operation to ensure its alignment with departmental goals and business objectives.

The Director of Global Systems will be responsible for developing a culture that promotes and self-enforces the use of sound process, metrics and documentation. They will work with the department head and local managers to produce and operate within budgets, provide guidance to managers, senior executives and other stakeholders, and directly oversee multiple Project Manager-led systems and network projects. They must have the ability to enable effective global collaboration and resource utilization, ensure open communication channels within and among groups, enforce a performance-based team management system at all levels, and provide resources to facilitate learning and skills development. This candidate will develop and coordinate short and long-term plans for infrastructure capacity and staff development, communicate and share best practices across all operations, standardize operational processes, requirements and tools throughout all offices, and provide regular performance and status reports to entire staff and senior management.
Experience: The Director of Global Systems must have a minimum bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred. 5+ years in managing systems and network operations (multiple geographically diverse operations strongly preferred). They must have proven senior-level experience in managing and leading people, experience working in Linux/UNIX and Windows server environments, knowledge of data center operations management, and ability to manage remote operations. A practical knowledge in project management, change management and strategic planning is a must. Excellent oral and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences. A knowledge of Web hosting industry and practices preferred. Experience in developing and managing vendor relationships, the ability to work in a highly dynamic environment, and must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time.
